Farting Car noise - what can be done

The amount of disturbance from these back firing noisy cars has really escalated near to me and it’s really impacting us. They used to come along on a Fri / Sat night and you kind of swear and ignore being woken up because you don’t have to get up for work . Over the last year or so it’s now escalated to pretty much constant , day and night all week . My neighbour had her toddler granddaughter to stay and she was very distressed being woken up. A horse next door bolted into a fence in fright and did a tendon , big vet’s bills , box test out of action, etc . They sound like bombs going off . FB pages are littered with distressed people at the end of their tether . How can it be right that these people are allowed to do this . Car noise modifications should be banned imo .

Many of the modifications are illegal, but rarely enforced.

I would suggest reporting it repeatedly here, and try to get your neighbours and local councillor, Nextdoor, on board. Getting the vehicle registration will obviously help.

If you're lucky the police might take some interest, especially as many of the mods are aren't declared and may invalidate their insurance, as it's considered a performance modification.

Exhaust mods are illegal, but the police will never do anything about it.

To answer your question, nothing.

I've noticed the same!! I'm going to write (again) to our local police and crime commissioner about it. There's one that goes past every day around 5.30 and it sounds like gunshots or a small bomb going off. My poor dog isn't scared of fireworks or thunder but these cars are horrible and he really gets scared.
