ADHD in toddler girl

ToddlerMum312 · 22/05/2025 12:51

My little girl just turned 27 months

Hi everybody : sorry for the long post but I’d really appreciate an input for me and my little girl .
She just turned 27 months .

3/4 word sentence : I want more crackers please mummy , where’s Daddy gone ?
She can ask

  1. who’s that ?
  2. What’s that?
  3. What happened ?
  4. Do you like it ?
  5. What’s mommy doing ?
  6. Where’s daddy gone ?
  7. Why scared ?
She can use the following pronouns 1 I and me , you , 2 yours and mine 3 she ( sometimes) She can answer the following questions
  1. what’s your name
  2. Yes and no
  3. Some Why’s ?
  4. What’s mommy’s name / dad’s name
  5. What’s your favourite toy / colour
  6. How old are you ?
  7. What do you want to watch / read
  8. How are you
  9. Do you want food ? Etc
  10. Why baby crying ? If she sees a baby crying I ask why is he crying ? She replies he is sad .
  11. She can tell boys from girls
  12. What’s /where’s / who’s that ?
  13. What is mommy doing ? Or describe actions in books

Socially , she tends to initiate playing and interaction other kids her by giving the kid her toy or playing with the ball back and forth but she is very shy if there is a big group and doesn’t tend to partake in activities ( she is not in nursery ) . She loves the grandparents . She tends to hold my hand when outside and never bolts , she walks by the buggy otherwise .
She takes “ no “ in her stride and does self regulate when she is stroppy . No meltdowns so far . When I ask her to tidy up or hold my hand she does all the time and she likes sharing with other kids her toys .

My worry is that she doesn’t tend to sit still for more than a few minutes and she would move on to another activity , she is not keen on circle time . She would , however , sit on the beach and draw stuff on the sand and read a book . she definitely is the child who doesn’t sit still at the restaurant.

I know a lot of you will say it is impossible to discern adhd from standard toddler behaviour but I’d like to see if I come across any parent with a child with a similar personality . I have come across a post here where a mom describe his daughter unable to sit still and do circle time and actives and eventually , she was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD ( she is not disruptive but can’t focus ) .

I know adhd carries a lot of genetic component but I am not sure how spontaneous a gene mutation is .

I think it’s far too early to tell.

Overthebow · 22/05/2025 12:54

She only just 2, my dd wasn’t able to do circle time and sit still for a few mins until she was 3 and a half. She may actually have ADHD as I do, but she 2 is way to early to expect them to be able to do circle time and sit still.

Summerhillsquare · 22/05/2025 12:57

Where have you picked up the idea?

Seawolves · 22/05/2025 12:59

You really do need to get help with your anxiety around your daughter, this isn't fair to her or to you. You repeatedly post, looking for signs of autism in your child and receive the same answers over and over again.

Ablondiebutagoody · 22/05/2025 13:28

I don't see what the problem is. She sounds fine

Needmorelego · 22/05/2025 13:34

You again.
Lots of us told you last time you posted that your daughter is FINE.
She is developing her personality and she sounds a lovely and normal little girl.
STOP with this obsession.

SilviaSnuffleBum · 22/05/2025 13:36

Absolutely nothing, repeat NOTHING, you have written suggests ADHD.
It may be that she does have ADHD, but at just over 2 years of age, there are no flags on what you have written.

Hankunamatata · 22/05/2025 13:40

Yabu. 3 adhd children here. It's way to early. That's way guidlines are 5/6 years and probably even later diagnosis for inattentive type adhd.

jeaux90 · 22/05/2025 13:40

Bloody hell OP. I say this as a mum of an AuDHD DD16 please chill out. It’s far too early.

Hankunamatata · 22/05/2025 13:41

Why on earth would you assume adhd though. She's just being a toddler. They have attention span of a pea

Bigcat25 · 22/05/2025 13:42

Things that could be considered signs of ADHD is normal toddler behavior. That's why it's not usually diagnosed until around six.

Also, one of her sentences you referenced is six words, which is quite good.

SilviaSnuffleBum · 22/05/2025 13:43

OP, you seem determined to have her labelled as either being Autistic or having ADHD.
Why is this?

x2boys · 22/05/2025 13:47

Is this the poster who keeps starting threads about autism, despite no evidence?
She's a toddler most of them are on the go all the time and are not able to concentrate for long .

Agree. You seem to want her to be Autistic.

EnhancedVampireEyeballs · 22/05/2025 13:54

You have posted about this several times. I feel for you, really, because you're unhealthily fixated and that must be so detrimental to your mental health.

However, you're the parent, and this obsession must be damaging your daughter, so you do have a responsibility to seek help to move past this obsession.

It's starting to sound like you actually want your daughter to have ADHD.

Also, as the friend of an amazing woman who's Mum was similarly convinced that my friend had a certain health issue, I can tell you, it has done so much damage to her, she's traumatised. Please listen to what people are saying, and please, please for your daughters sake, don't do this to her.

HoppingPavlova · 22/05/2025 13:54

There is a reason toddlers can’t be diagnosed with ADHD. That’s because a standard toddler is pretty much the definition of ADHD. No idea why you are worried with your child’s age and what you describe.

vivainsomnia · 22/05/2025 14:14

My worry is that she doesn’t tend to sit still for more than a few minutes
Sitting still, concentration, focusing are not inate skills but learnt skills. Some children learn them quicker and easier than others. Children with adhd are those who still can't do these despite dedicated and committed teaching dor quite some time.

I think this is where society are experiencing issues with diagnosis. Patents don't teach their kids these skills and by the time they start school and continue through primary, it becomes harder and harder to do so.

Your child is much to young for a diagnosis. She might more naturally drown to physical stimuli but that doesn't mean she has adhd and can't learn to adapt. Continue to be firm and consistent with your disciplining and make sure you give her plenty of attention to get her used to focus on one activity at a time.

ButteryLightHouse · 22/05/2025 14:16

You, OP need therapy to address your anxiety.

JayJayj · 24/05/2025 00:45

Sounds like a toddler. Do you want her to have adhd so is looking for something?

PawsAndTails · 24/05/2025 01:08

It's normal for a toddler to move around activities and be on the go. I have one with ADHD and none of what you have described resonates with me.

The things I remember from that age that were a bit different were academic giftedness, a tendency to climb everywhere, anything and everything. But too early to tell as a lot of behaviours are typical for the age group anyway.

user1493379562 · 25/05/2025 12:45

Just google toddler attention span by age. I think you will find your little girl is quite normal!

Mightyhike · 25/05/2025 12:46

She sounds completely typical to me.

It’s because it seems that every way I turn not sitting still during social activities like library Time or circle time is always an indicator of something and I just wanted to gather some thoughts on parents who might have had the same child in terms of behaviour

Not necessarily. I thought mine didn't have ADHD for ages because she could focus very well. I didn't understand at the time that children with ADHD can hyperfocus on interesting things to them, so the focus/not focus thing can be misleading.
