To dislike when DH says 'Mummy won't allow Daddy to have those'

OK this is a complete non issue and I am already over it, but it just annoys me!!

Our 2 yr old is seriously fussy right now - we are trying everything!

But it can be counted upon that he will eat little brioche rolls. I buy an 8 pack in the weekly shop and he has 1 a day. DH has the other.

DH knows they are for the toddler, but has sometimes had half the pack. I have said countless times if you'd like them I can get more than 1 pack. We could even keep a few in the freezer. He says 'no I am trying to stay away from bread'. So I stick to the 1 pack. I just hate waste. So I don't like buying them if they won't be eaten.

But when DS asks him if is having one he says 'no mummy won't allow me' it just annoys me like I am controlling what DH eats. I'm not and I said it last night when he said that to DS, that mummy asked daddy if he wanted them and he said no.

AIBU to be a little annoyed about this?

Hide them from DH

GoldieFish · 21/05/2025 10:44

Rephrase it as 'Daddy is blaming Mummy for his own poor impulse control around your brioches, darling'.

AlorsTimeForWine · 21/05/2025 10:44

Buy 3 packs.
Put 2 in the freezer.

Every single time say "daddy can eat whatever he likes."
"Daddy would you like a roll???"

Mollysocks · 21/05/2025 10:44

I’d say something along the lines of, ‘Mummy is trying to stop greedy Daddy from eating your treats.’

Yellowpingu · 21/05/2025 10:44

Just buy another pack and stick them in the freezer. Next time he spouts this nonsense tell him they’re there.

This! Except don’t ask. Just put it on a plate in front of him. Every bloody time

KarmenPQZ · 21/05/2025 10:47

And put something else on dhs plate the your son is picky about to try to encourage son to associate a ‘safe’ food with a new one to get him to try. And tell husband he’s made his own bed with his stupid / thoughtless blaming of you and he’s now responsible for eating the brioche and the other food every time, no excuses

No, that's stooping to his level!

I hate it when men try to paint their wives as the fun police (or food police, in this case). It's really manipulative.

😂 Quite like this one.

Seriously though, is this the only thing he does this over because I’d be wanting to nip this in the bud before you become the scapegoat for everything not fun and the one who lays down the rules while Daddy gets to be fun.

pontipinemum · 21/05/2025 10:52

@AlorsTimeForWine I will get another for the freezer but it just annoys me. He never and I mean absolutely never does the food shopping I will buy anything he puts on the list.

Yes @crackofdoom like I am the fun police telling him what he can and cannot have.

@KarmenPQZ I like that idea and I'll try it next time. He usually just says 'no thank you I fine' for something he doesn't like

I wouldn’t even bother putting them in the fridge. The brioche’s last forever. We ate some that were best before December 2024 last night Grin

This, too.

No single pack is going to be open for more than 3 to 4 days if they have one each a day. Which is shorter than they are open now. I’d just buy 2 packs this week and then just keep topping up to however many you need for the next week when you do the shop.

BlueTitShark · 21/05/2025 11:13

The message about you treating him like a child who isn’t allowed to have xyz is extremely off putting.

And as you say Theres the message that somehow you’re controlling him…l

fwiw dh has a similar attitude.
Would you like me to pick up xyz when i do the shopping?
Nope. I’m trying to be good
Goes and eat the stash I bought for MYSELF instead.
Arrggg….
If he was making any comment like the one your dh is making, I’d be furious!

Fwiw it’s worth, if I was hearing say that, I’d remind him ‘Yes because they are ds snacks. If you want some you can add it to the shopping list or go and buy some yourself.
Repeat.

JHound · 21/05/2025 11:15

It would annoy me too. Imagine taking food from your own child. He’s selfish.

Pigsears · 21/05/2025 11:17

Tell your husband to stop? Explain why?

Hankunamatata · 21/05/2025 11:18

Id respond we only have enough for you wee cherub so daddy doesn't want to eat them

Couldyounot · 21/05/2025 11:20

Apologies if I have missed this but why is buying 2 packs not an option?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 21/05/2025 11:21

I love those brioche rolls. ooo the choc chips ones..

I’m going to make a wild guess here.

Im pretty sure the OP has already done that!!

GoldDuster · 21/05/2025 11:24

Buy another pack of brioche, they'd survive a nuclear war they're so full of preservatives.

I'd be more bothered by anyone that wants me to want to have sex with them calling me Mummy if I didn't gestate them, and he's putting you in the position of She Who Controls The Food, and that's not sexy either.

Tell him to lean in on the food shopping, you're not the Quartermaster or the boarding school cook.

BlueTitShark · 21/05/2025 11:24

Couldyounot · 21/05/2025 11:20

Because HE said he didn’t want them?
And the OP followed his lead.

Why should the OP trust him as a child, planning ahead of his needs?
Otherwise, This could easily be seen as the OP not being supportive of her dh trying to reduce the amount of bread he is eating…. Buying treat and ignoring his wish to nit be tempted.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/05/2025 11:26

Aaargh. That’s so annoying.

My exh would be a bit like that. Can’t hear that something is not for him - even if given the opportunity to get his own.

Even before we had children, I remember if we went to a cafe etc, I would get a drink to go with my food and he would say he didn’t want one. Then would try to share mine! No - my drink is not for you, it’s the amount of drink that I want with my food.

GoldDuster · 21/05/2025 11:26

If there are plenty and he eats them when he is trying to avoid bread, that's his problem. If he eats them and there's none for your child, that's not just his problem. Buy another packet and leave him to it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/05/2025 11:27

But yes I think the only option is to buy two packs as he obviously does want them.
