Argh I've got my first date in 12 years tomorrow. For coffee 😬 she's a teacher. I'm worried.

What if the conversation runs dry? What if it's awkward?

The good thing about a coffee date is that they can be overly quickly.

You can always say it was nice to meet you and then say you have an appointment to get to if it’s really awkward.

Be honest and say you’re nervous. And remember to ask questions, don’t just talk yourself. Set a time limit (45 mins?).
Avoid talking about exes or politics. Ask about hobbies or things they’re passionate about. Remember this is just to see if there’s initial interest. Best of luck!

It's a coffee date so is always going to be dry. Where's the fun in that? Try drinks next time.

GenderFluid90 · 20/05/2025 19:45

My first date we just spent time chatting anf asking questions. I met them after a a couple of weeks chat on a dating app

I got to know them pretty well and we were both pretty chilled by not putting too much expectation on each other

Embrace the fact that there will be a few awkward moments and go with flow

I've now been with them for 10 months and couldn't be happier

My first date with DP was a quick drink at a pub. I arrived sodden after my brolly had blown inside out and broken. I then accidentally dropped my bag which threw out a load of bobbles and tissues and tampons at his feet. It was a good ice breaker! We chatted about our jobs and hobbies after that and all was fine. Speaking as a recent ex-teacher, if you ask her about her favourite lesson topics/pupils/worst SLT there probably won’t be any drying up of conversation, we can get a lot of mileage out of those! Just don’t ask specifically which school she works at, as I found that really weird when dates asked me.

It was her decision!

Argh I am so very nervous. 1 hour to go.

I bloody hate first dates, they are right up there with job interviews for me.

How did it go. I went on 2 last week one was a walk and I had to buy my own drink so nope no thanks

2nd was half a larger at the pub but just wasn't feeling it.

Ive got one Sunday I wanted to go snow boarding lessons with them but ive settled for crazy golf and a bun.

Hoping one of the other men suggests cocktail making on sat night haha.

People watch , it triggers conversation

Oh gosh don’t avoid politics as poster upthread suggests - it’s vital to screen out the Tories/reform voters early! I used to do this at the online stage to be fair.
