Suns out, neighbours out!

Can anyone commiserate with me re neighbour noise?

I live in a detached house and really appreciate the months Of November to March. The rest of the year my neighbours seem to have every window and door open, radio on in the garden and shout-talk to each other. TBH I have become a little obsessed with it and am almost waiting for their noise every day, it’s a bit sad.

Luckily we don’t have neighbours like we did in our previous house although they’re not much better..old house was a semi, the lady and her daughter would a bang up and down the stairs, slam doors, smoke right by our back door and watch us out the back with the blinds angled down.

So yeah, if anyone wants a moan..this is your place!

Me too! I like the sound of life happening, children playing, BBQs sizzling, music and conversation. It makes me happy to hear people enjoying themselves.

Yes, and I even love overhearing the odd argument! Bit of light entertainment!

Very bizarre

you join the thread talking about how “really sorry” you feel for your neighbours “especially” in summer.

and the whiff that anyone might agree with you… suddenly you become very defensive and dramatic. Most odd

If they get pissed off like OP about children living then yes sorry it was meant to come across as light hearted!

The op has children
her neighbours do not

SimplybidetimdE · 21/05/2025 08:52

You can’t expect to join a thread and admit you feel “really sorry” for your neighbours and not expect the odd poster to agree with you

Well I have children, lovely happy lively children full of the joys of spring! They make a noise but we are considerate of others! I am riled up because it was suggested we are not despite describing attempts to ask children to keep it down bringing them in when things get too much etc. like I say, really glad we don’t live in the middle of some of these posters through fear of breathing too loudly.

It was a light hearted “well we must be terrible then” never mind! Obviously did not come across that way

Yes people can be very odd your right, like the person getting annoyed at the mum bringing groceries in from her car, imagine!

Yuknow · 21/05/2025 08:58

I also don’t mind neighbours general noise unless it’s antisocial like endless music or shouting. I recently moved and we live in one little block of a few houses in a row and we all chat and get on. We all have kids so there is general children noises and I think it’s nice. I still try to be considerate of noise very early or late. We have a garden office and if we play music I turn it down or close the doors

Oh dear
maybe you need to read the posts

the Op is getting annoyed at her neighbour for chatting with another neighbour out whilst she is putting her children in the car and carrying millions of bags.

Ok… but imagine getting annoyed with that!? Why? Why on earth would peoples god given right to have a conversation with someone annoy a person much?

I feel like an outlier on mumsnet

but I love the sounds of summer
mowers going
children jumping on trampoline
voices chatting over bbqs

it makes me feel all warm and happy inside!

I’m the same.

me too but I am currently feeling mortified that there are some people out there who would find the noise of my children living and me talking to them annoying and apparently piss them off no end.

mondaytosunday · 21/05/2025 09:27

@Ontothenextacme too! However in one house there was a child who had the highest pitch scream as they ran around playing and it was quite annoying. I’m now in a terrace with young family on one side and a couple who seem to bbq most nights if fine weather - it’s nice to hear people enjoy themselves! No one takes it to the extreme, no late night parties. We are mindful.

ALJT · 21/05/2025 13:04

I am this neighbour who is in the garden at the hint of sunshine. Blow up pool, bbqs and friends round

But tbf if you @Gwanwyn1 feel “really sorry” for your neighbours, then doesn’t that sort of make posters think that you must be making a fair bit of unreasonable level noise? It’s like you said you felt really sorry for your neighbours but then launched in to a rather frenzied defence as to why any poster at all that agrees with you is so incredibly unreasonable!

Andthenextafterthat · 21/05/2025 13:28

If you don’t want posters to feel sorry for your neighbours, then maybe don’t post that you feel really sorry for your neighbours!

Edited

But if poster is getting annoyed at simple things like conversations between people, then yes i feel sorry for my neighbours because they hear that

Well yes

But maybe revisit your own first post. You certainly painted a different picture.

so to be clear you don’t feel “really sorry” for your neighbours? And your husband isn’t “really loud” and enjoy shouting coming out in the garden “honennneeee I’m home** and you haven’t tried really hard to make him stop doing this? That was all made up?

No i havent. My kids are in and out of the house especially in this nice weather like I said, yes they do scream and shout sometimes when playing, they are asked to keep it down (like I said) and i bring them in if its getting too much (like I have also said) my husband doesn’t ho EVERY night into the garden shouting honeey Im hooome, he is a loud personality NOT a twat as has been mentioned here. I have been called “shitty” and “inconsiderate” which is not true and not on. What i described in my post are noises to be expected from the garden of a young family in summer. What i meant by saying “i feel sorry for our neighbours” was if they are as easily pissed off by some of the posters on here then yes, sorry! We don't go blaring music, we don't scream and shout at each other etc etc. Someone on here even posted that the sound of a child playing with his ball after coming home from school would piss him/her off, I mean come off it.

Gwanwyn1 · 21/05/2025 17:45

*your worries and your world are quite small if something as innocent as a child playing football has the ability to piss you off.

Gwanwyn1 · 20/05/2025 19:15

I feel really sorry for our neighbours sometimes, especially in this nice weather, I have 2 young DC who love being outside, they scream/shout through playing/ laugh at the top of their voices, in and out of the pool in this nice weather, yes they do occasionally fall out, yes I do give them tellings off outside, my husband is a loud person in general so will come to the back garden shouting “hooneeeeyy Im hooooome” I get really REALLY self-conscious of the noise we are making, I try my best to tell the kids to keep it down, I try to tell my husband, I try to remind myself, but it is damned near impossible. It doesnt help that myself and DH both grew-up with no immediate neighbours so we tend to forget that we now live in the middle of people 😂 I would really hate if our neighbours were annoyed or peed off with us because of noise, we are good people really.

I personally did not get even the slightest hint that this was a lighthearted post and that you actually only feely sorry for your neighbours having read how some on this thread are very sensitive about their neighbours noise

I’m exactly the same. I love it when people are out in the garden, especially if they’ve got some music on and are having a chat!. The winters are so isolating, it’s nice to actually hear your neighbours in the summer.
