Hi I need some advice about universal credit
I am migrateing over from esa .I was married in 2009 qe only lived togeather 3 weeks and she cheated and left i have never claimed for her and she as never claimed benifits we do not live togeather or share any bank accounts . We are now in the process of getting a divorce will hear back on 12 June then will go to nxt stage as its a civil partnership do I have to tell universal credit I'm so confused by all this I suffer from. Memory and I have brain fog from diffrent meds thank you in advance

Also do you have to anser all the equality questions I think some are a bit intrusive as what as my sensuality got to do with my claim

If you are not living together or sharing finances, then you don't have to tell Universal Credit about it, you can (in fact, should) claim as a single person.

You don't have to answer the equality questions, you can pick the 'prefer not to say' options. Those don't affect your claim.

No, you don't have to claim universal credit.

However must mention that if ESA are somehow giving you a couples rate for having a partner, and you claim UC without being in a couple, you won't be eligible for any transitional protection payment, and will end up with an overpayment from your ESA when they investigate.

Check your ESA payment breakdown to prepare. If you're claiming as a a single person, I. E no couples rate, you'll be alright.
