Would you assume you hadn’t got the job?

Ds had a job interview yesterday. It was a stage 2 interview having passed stage 1. Afaik they were doing around 15 interview la but there are several vacancies.

They told him he’d definitely hear back yesterday evening before 7pm but he didn’t.

Im just so eager for him. He’s got loads of experience and a qualification in the area, but vacancies don’t come up often and when they do sometimes he won’t even hear back.

I don’t think I’d assume he hadn’t got it yet - something might have delayed the final decision. Just send a polite follow up this afternoon.

BallerinaRadio · 20/05/2025 07:07

You can assume anything but it doesn't mean you'll be right. It's just one of those things, you just have to wait and hear from them

Koazy · 20/05/2025 08:06

I would tbh but I hope there’s been a delay and he’s got it.

AffableApple · 20/05/2025 08:11

They'll have offered it to people still deciding whether to accept. He might be a close second to these, or he might be way down the list.

Or there might just be a delay as discussions and decisions are still happening.

A polite follow-up won't hurt. They just need to confirm people in roles before rejecting anyone. The fact it's several vacancies is slowing this down.

vivainsomnia · 20/05/2025 08:19

Most likely scenario is that he is on hold, second line if one of the successful candidate change their minds. Fingers crossed.

SwanOfThoseThings · 20/05/2025 08:26

I'm a pessimist and I would assume that. In my experience if you've got the job you find out quickly. He might be on the reserve list in case the first choice turns it down. I hope I'm wrong and he gets it!

Bumblebeeyouandme · 20/05/2025 17:56

Still nothing.

Why don’t they let you know either way when they say they will?

It’s rude op. Probably not the sign of a great company culture

I have a job now that I love, with lovely people. But after the interview, when I was told I’d hear the next day, I heard nothing for a week. I emailed saying I assumed I hadn’t got the job but would appreciate feedback, and then got a phone call offering me the job and apologising. I gather that the office manager and the Heads all thought that someone else had contacted me to make an offer! I m not sure what actually happened, but I would say don’t be afraid to go back to them. Give it a few days then send a polite email.

ZebraPrintt · 20/05/2025 19:43

For my job, they'd told me I'd definitely hear back by Friday 5pm. I didn't so assumed I hadn't got it, they phoned on Monday to say I had it. Annoying that they haven't been in touch but could you follow up with them?

CottonPyjamas · 20/05/2025 19:54

My son applied for an apprenticeship and a local temporary job. The first said if he hadn't heard in a couple of weeks, don't worry. The second said they'd call him the following week. However, it took six weeks for the first to contact him to offer him the position. The second have said they'll contact him tomorrow (it's been two weeks). I wouldn't worry just yet.

Amba1998 · 20/05/2025 19:56

No. The interviewers might be out of touch with the reality of what’s going on in the HR department. I know we as a team some times make a decision quickly but then it takes a week or so for sign off on offers and HR to communicate etc. Businesses have a lot on their plate. They shouldn’t have promised same day though

Bumblebeeyouandme · 22/05/2025 07:11

Well he followed up with a polite phonecall yesterday.

He was told that their email had been down and that he’d hear back yesterday afternoon.

Still nothing.

no news is good news OP, fingers crossed for him to get good news today

Email was down? Code for they've been hacked or rubbish excuse? I'm not sure I'd believe that, was the job in IT security? 😀

Bumblebeeyouandme · 22/05/2025 10:18

I’m not sure I believe it either.

But why can’t they just put him out of his misery?
