Feeling super pissed at my child’s school. I signed them up for acting classes. They started the initial term to see how they would go with agreement from the teacher. We decided my child wouldn’t continue and would reconsider next year. I paid the final invoice. Got another invoice for three more lessons that they gave her without my consent stating exam prep and additional lessons needed for the exam. Payment immediately. No amount of reasoning is working with them and they’re referring back to terms and conditions that don’t apply because we were trialling it. I’m so fed up. I cannot afford extra bills. What rights do I have here. The emails are becoming more pointed. But they cannot just do that! Help!

They gave her more acting lessons after you told them you didn’t want her to continue?

If so, then surely they can’t charge you for those as you specifically told them she wasn’t continuing!

Do you have it in writing that the normal terms and conditions don’t apply?

When did the extra lessons take place? Was it before or after you said she was ending the lessons?

Do you have it in writing that you wanted to stop the lessons?

Surely it's not a 'trial' if you paid initially and you'd be more than reasonable to contest this.

Did she attend the extra classes, was she entered for an exam?

I don’t have the trial conversation in writing as I don’t think they’d do this. We spoke again and agreed we wouldn’t move to another term. Exams already paid for but that was fine. Conversation ended with we will see for next year. Then they gave another 3 lessons without notifying me for the exams after we agreed lessons would end.

Sounds like a clerical error. Probably had ‘exams paid for’ written down and timetabled your child for further lessons. Do you know who actually manages the drama lesson timetabling? Is it the teacher you spoke to or someone else?

it may have been a lack of communication between parties in school and I would suggest to them that this is what has happened and therefore you won’t be paying for their lack of internal communication.
