AIBU to be annoyed that my partner frequently tries to solicit sympathy from random strangers eg. having a wee laugh with waiters about my choices or choosiness? It's never exactly overt, but it's snide in my opinion. So on the phone to the painter we use for household jobs he says, "Audrey (not my name) is putting pressure on me to get the job started."

No, he sounds like a passive agressive fanny.

My ex still does this (we still spend lots of time together).
I occasionally say pretty loudly “please don’t embarrass me in that way, it’s humiliating” or “why would you say that”?
usually embarrasses him until he forgets and does it again!

When I'm out with one of my best friends, I sometimes interact with strangers in what sounds like a similar way, except that I talk her up. Saying how good she is at stuff, how I can rely in her for advice etc.

So no, I don't think you're unreasonable to be annoyed that he's subtly talking you down

"please don't TRY to embarrass or humiliate me in this way Alfred, its beneath us both, this poor waitress doesnt need that in their day"

Hold your head up high! Don't engage, don't get mad, show him its pathetic, not worth your time...

I am reciting this until it rolls off the tongue! Thanks @toomuchfaff, brilliant comeback
