DD (9) has been unwell since last Wednesday. It started off with a couple of days of random high temperatures but no other symptoms to suggest that she was unwell or how she was unwell. Took her up the hospital and she was diagnosed with a UTI.
The fever then came down - and stayed down - from Saturday onwards. She came back from school on Wednesday, and the fever had started again. Took her back up the hospital on Thursday (on open access) and they said that she still had the urine infection (but the urine culture hadn’t grown any bacteria) and she was prescribed some more antibiotics.
She was just deteriorating by the day, and I wasn’t happy with how she was presenting, so I took her to a different hospital on Friday. They finally done some bloods - which came back okay, just slightly elevated inflammatory markers - and they said if she was still having high temperatures by Tuesday, then to take her back in.
Her temperature is now exceeding 40, more than once, and she is needing basically the maximum amount of paracetamol and ibuprofen to try and keep it under control but it still isn’t coming down to a normal level. She has had a non-stop fever for the last 5 days now.
She has never had a ‘viral’ illness like this before, and never had temperatures like this before even with all of the other illnesses she’s had throughout the years and I’m just not convinced this is just a viral infection sort of situation.
She has autism, and finds the hospital quite distressing but I am worried about her - AIBU to take her back up there again even though they have said to wait until Monday evening to see what her temperature is like?
