Live and let live and I understand people love it, but it’s a mystery to me? DH has been glued to telly today watching Crystal Palace!

I’m going to break this to you gently, there’s other things to do in the world that don’t involve either playing or watching football. This does seem to be a hard theory for the football fans to grasp so I apologise to them in advance 🙏

Are you as disparaging towards other interests and sports or do you save it all for football?

I'm not a football fan but my DH and DS are and I respect that. Just like they respect my interests. It's not a difficult concept

Brefugee · 19/05/2025 13:21

give over. You made a sexist assumption that because you had a DD she wouldn't be into football (and is instead into something else that lots of girls do)

ETA: my parents, for a while, got stuck standing out in the wind and the rain watching me be a rather rubbish hockey goalie.

What an awful, sexist comment. You do realise that boys ride horses too?

So.. I’m not allowed to say that a higher proportion of boys are into football yet you’re allowed to say that horse riding is girly? Makes sense. The usual double standards.

murasaki · 19/05/2025 13:20

What patronising guff.

I listed some of the things I'm interested in in addition to football, I apologise if they are also not valid interests.

Of course it's patronising guff. Several posters have indicated that they have a range of interests and friends which include football and other things, but that seems to be beyond that poster's comprehension and she's still wittering away about people thinking football is the centre of the universe.

oh give fucking over. You said yourself that lots of girls do it too (IIRC, i really don't GAF)

You were sexist. You're doubling down. So push off with the idiocy.

ETA your actual words (visible in the thread of these repllies)

it’s no lie that females vastly outnumber males in the sport

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 19/05/2025 13:29

I don’t need to list my interests for you in order to make up for the alleged hole in my life that my lack of football obsession seems to have created, according to some. Hope this helps 👍

Nobody has said your life is lacking because you don't like football. In your attempt to show everyone you're a better person because you dislike football you've spectacularly missed the point.

You seem rather obsessed with disliking football, one might say more so than those who like it.

SquashedSquid · 19/05/2025 13:29

Not sure why my comment was deleted. The poster asked for examples of other things they could do instead of watching football. I teach, so it was the first thing that came to mind. How amusing that people found it offensive!

& now you are being sexist with a side of double standards. Works both ways 👍

You made a personal attack on someone's SPAG. I'm sure MNHQ will be prepared to confirm that that isn't tolerated.

you. Literally. Said. More. Girls. Do. Riding. Than. Boys.

TizerorFizz · 19/05/2025 13:43

I don’t understand why the word “hatred” is used. Way too strong a sentiment over sport that bring millions joy. I don’t particularly like some sports but I don’t hate them. I just don’t watch them. DH and me agree on the sports we like so no arguments. I feel very happy for Palace fans. I know some very longstanding ones and they are overjoyed. Great!

Brefugee · 19/05/2025 13:40

Which is true. I also said that more boys do footballs than girls (a true fact) and got attacked + called sexist for it. It’s the double standards that I have an issue with.

Where did I personally attack anyone? More of a reach than S Club 7.

Rabidbunnyrabbit · 19/05/2025 14:26

I despise most sport. Apart from ice skating and (for some odd reason) darts, snooker and pool. I think because I enjoy doing those last three myself. However, I do get why people like sports. It plays to the tribal nature and competive spirit of humanity. A shared celebration is sweeter so I get football. I don't care for all the noise and the endless analysis though. Fucking annoying.

Viviennemary · 19/05/2025 14:28

No. It's totally boring. Except for the wag wars. Now they are a bit more interesting.

I understand that, clearly
i was asking what it is you do?

TizerorFizz · 19/05/2025 15:30

@Rabidbunnyrabbit Despise is a deep hatred. Why get so upset about sport? Darts and snooker/pool are not active sports and have similarities in other ways. Just not quite the same as tennis, football or cycling. I don’t like all sport but I appreciate why people do it and watch it. If you don’t like analysis, don’t watch it. It’s not obligatory and if you go to football you don’t get it anyway. Sport is endlessly fascinating and there’s certainly analysis of snooker these days.

CorbyTrouserPress · 19/05/2025 15:37

ACLtrouble · 19/05/2025 13:05

Yes, well done - you seem to be grasping basic fact now. I am glad I had a DD as with a girl the chance of ending up stuck beside a rainy football pitch every Saturday morning watching them kick a ball around is far less than if I’d had a boy. Again, not sexist, just fact that football is far more popular amongst males. Frankly I’d rather stand and watch paint dry

Nope, you said you didn't want to watch men playing football as your sexism decided that football is a game just for men, hence your joy at having a daughter. You can dress it up any way like but your patronising attitude is fooling no one. Frankly, I’d rather stand and watch paint dry than carry on a conversation with someone as narrow minded with outdated views as yourself. Enjoy watching your daughter and her ‘girly’ horseys, I’ll stick to the rain and mud with mine.

That’s not why you made the comment as well you know so don’t spout bollocks.

TizerorFizz · 19/05/2025 15:42

Horse racing - mostly men riding. Loads of girls play football. Does it matter? Don’t watch if you don’t like it.

The saying goes, “its not life or death, its football”

MyKingdomForACat · 19/05/2025 15:56

TranceNation · 18/05/2025 20:15

Men have their football, woman have their soaps. It's just the way it is.

That’s it

TizerorFizz · 19/05/2025 16:00

@Itsjustgonenoonhalfpastmonsoon Bill Shankly actually was asked if football was as important as life and death to him. He said “listen, it’s more important than that”. It’s been twisted a bit but that’s the original quote.
