Help us settle a dispute (lighthearted)

DP and I are having a disagreement. DP does help around the house with chores however as I wfh full time I do the majority of household tasks while he works full time out of the house. After completing a chore DP will sometimes let me know it’s been done by saying example “I mopped the floors for you”. DP says this is due to him trying to make my workload less. I feel like DP shouldn’t say that he has done this for me as we both live in the house.

YABU - DP has done a nice thing and is being thoughtful
YANBU - DP lives in the home and completes chores for the benefit of the home and not as a nice thing for me

This isn’t that deep, DP done something earlier and I laughed and told him that it wasn’t for my sole benefit. I will not be LTB 😂

I think a bit of both (not helpful). Yes, dh thinks he’s trying to be helpful by doing the floors, but as you say, floor mopping isn’t your job, per se. It’s a household job, not your specific job, unless you’ve drawn up a list and you do xyz, and he does abc, and in this case, he’s done something from your list.

You're right. When men say 'for you' they are telling you they think the job they've just done is really your responsibility. It's a sign of deeply rooted traditional views on men's work and women's work. If it were me I'd start announcing every domestic chore I did, adding 'for you' on the end "I've loaded the dishwasher for you" etc until the point hit home.

YABU to think it isn’t that deep. It’s soooooo deeply ingrained and I wish you luck. You should watch the show ‘the change’ together, an excellent representation of what you can do if he continues his fuckwittery.
