Anyone else hate thinking of what to have for tea every night please

Yes, it's one of the least appealing parts of adulting. My DH does more than his fair share of cooking, I should add. But I still loathe thinking of what to cook when it's my turn.

As an aside, I await the inevitable responses with variations on the theme of "What do you mean 'tea'? Tea is a drink, not a meal," blah blah blah.

Toomanydogwalks · 17/05/2025 21:01

Yep. I usually ask DD what she wants the following night when I dish up dinner.
Dinner decision fatigue.
We had pizza in the oven tonight cos I CBA.

No one’s said that but I thought it!

Absolutely. Why does no one warn you that this bullshit is part of being an adult? If they had I think I would have just opted out.

gingercat02 · 17/05/2025 21:28

We had this https://thecookingjar.com/light-lemon-garlic-pasta-with-salmon/
I did add spring onions and asparagus and peas to up the veg count

I love cooking so that's not a chore but sometimes I would like someone else to decide what to cook

Me! It's quite possibly the worst part of being an adult. I miss the days of not only someone else deciding what we're going to eat but also cooking it.

Haha and me! I love cooking but hate the cleaning up afterwards. Also hate at 5pm everyone starts asking me what’s for tea!

Was it nice?

whynotmereally · 17/05/2025 22:58

I plan meals mon- Thurs at the beginning of the week. I will plan -
a pasta or rice dish
a bulgar/quinoa or lentil dish
soup or salad )weather depending)
Jacket potato or omelette

we don’t have meat in the week so I just buy a selection of veg and plan each meal accordingly. It’s easier to think of what to cook if you already know the meal type.

JaceLancs · 17/05/2025 23:04

We meal plan each week before shopping usually based on what needs eating up or to get freezer level lower
this week that means - chicken stir fry, pork tenderloin with veg rice, chicken satay, Greek chicken n green veg, tacos with coleslaw, BBQ night, prawns with pasta

TotHappy · 17/05/2025 21:53

Was it nice?

@TotHappy yes very. Nice and light as we had tapas and wine for lunch

VivIsBlonde · 18/05/2025 09:29

Not really!
go shopping on a Friday night/Saturday morning buy food for the week, put it in the fridge, job done!
first thing I grab is what we have!
Today it’s hot dogs for lunch and curry for tea

ToffeePennie · 17/05/2025 16:50

Me. And I hate it. If I had my way I would eat my 3 favourite things on repeat (cottage pie, spag bol or jacket potatoes) but I have to take my husband (autistic) and kids (autistic and a flighty 7 year old) into the equation. I never know if my tea will be well received or not.

This would be me as well, hate it! My housemates at Uni used to laugh at me and my Jacket potatoes every night!
So lucky my husband loves cooking. Also my 2 grown nearly adult kids also like cooking!!

ThinWomansBrain · 18/05/2025 09:37

I was ill a couple of weeks ago, and for some reason can no longer stomach the usual English Breakfast with milk.
Lapsang souchong probably.

Looks delicious

Dr13Hadley · 21/05/2025 20:05

I hate it. It’s a shame as I used to love cooking but as the kids have got older, more hobbies, more fussy (or vocal about not wanting what I’m making) I just feel like going on strike. I’m happy with beans on toast they can sort themselves out.

SunsetCocktails · 21/05/2025 20:15

Poopeepoopee · 17/05/2025 16:45

Yes, all of us lol.

😂 I’ve found my people 😆

Hate cooking with a passion. Luckily DH will often cook, and kids are old enough now that they prefer to sort themselves out as and when they’re in. I still have to think of what to actually buy every week though otherwise everyone’s moaning there’s nothing in the fridge. If I lived alone I’d just eat sandwiches and cake every day.

Katemax82 · 21/05/2025 21:00

Sometimes it ruins my afternoon if I'm not sure what to cook cos I just keep overthinking it. It doesn't help that my husband doesn't like pasta and thinks we have curry too often and whinges about having mince. Tonight I did chicken and veg stir fry noodles, it went down well as we don't have it often. Now I'm stressing about tomorrow...

Katemax82 · 21/05/2025 21:06

TotHappy · 17/05/2025 21:53

I'm going to try that

Katemax82 · 21/05/2025 22:12

Justcseen trsco finest sausages 10 pack are half price...that makes a really nice sausage and made dinner

LeavesOnTrees · 21/05/2025 22:22

Yes , I now always do creamy pasta on a Monday, as that's the worst day and everyone likes it.
At least my DH will do massive cooks at the weekend, so Tuesday is quite often leftovers.
That then leaves weds -fri.....
I have resorted to chat Gpt a few times and thank goodness for fish fingers.
