AIBU To be a little bit proud of myself? (OU degree)

This morning at 6.50am I submitted my final assignment towards my degree with the Open University. Started in 2019 two months before COVID kicked off. I’ve studied part time whilst holding down a full time job in the NHS and dealing with all the usual crap that comes with family life with two primary aged boys. Then half way through I was formally diagnosed with ADHD. I’m pretty damn chuffed with myself considering I usually start stuff and never finish it.

DH doesn’t really get it. He never went to uni and has done very well career wise. He’s also neurotypical so doesn’t understand what a bloody big achievement it is for me.

So AIBU to sit here feeling a little bit pleased with myself?! I have extremely low self esteem and it’s an unusual feeling! By my calculations, if this last assignment goes reasonably well, I should be on track for a 2:1.

YABU, but only because you should be feeling very proud, not just a little bit.

EwwSprouts · 16/05/2025 22:00

You superstar! I always think OU degrees take a hell of a lot more motivation.

C080889 · 16/05/2025 22:01

Thats amazing
Im single, no kids, neurotypical and it was too much for me.
So your husband needs to realise how amazing this is. Dedication. Resillience. Self belief.

What degree is it? Will you be staying in the NHS? Just being nosey!

Dweetfidilove · 16/05/2025 22:01

Congratulations to you! That's an awesome achievement 👏🏾

waxymoron · 16/05/2025 22:02

Absolutely! I've just completed year one having been out of study for years, and so far have an average of 70.3%. I'm dead proud too !

Pickingdates · 16/05/2025 22:03

Unbelievable achievement.
What a woman you are.
No one will ever full comprehend the effort and sacrifice.
Its enormous.
People in error compare it to to a master when young.
Not true.
The effort of a masters as an adult is enormous.
Its why we encouraged our children to do it whilst in university, post graduate.

The break makes it much harder.
You are amazing.👏👏👏

sallyrhubarbbb · 16/05/2025 22:04

Bloody well done you! It’s frigging tough working, being a mum and studying. I’m doing a degree (funded by work) which I am thoroughly enjoying but it’s hard going. I’m another that didn’t go to uni so this is my first experience as an adult of being really truly proud of myself for doing it.

I hope you are going to treat yourself now after the long slog!x

CC222 · 16/05/2025 22:05

That is absolutely incredible! You never gave up, and look what you’ve achieved! You are truly inspirational and should be so proud ♥️♥️♥️
Your post gives me hope 🙏

Congratulations 👏 you definitely should feel proud of yourself, very well done ✅

Triptothepark · 16/05/2025 22:08

Congratulations. I completed one about 10 years ago. It was worth all the stress and sleeplessness nights. Looking back now I am proud, though it nearly broke me. I'm almost finished my part time masters now at a brick university and am eyeing up PhDs.
Very well done!

Haggisfish3 · 16/05/2025 22:09

I work for the ou and I have so much respect for people who get an ou degree. Be absolutely fucking proud of yourself and never apologise for being proud .

ToffeeSheep · 16/05/2025 22:09

Congratulations! 🎉You should absolutely be very proud of yourself - such a great feeling to press that final submit button! I finished my OU degree a few years ago and like you I was working full time and dealing with all the family stuff. I still have a wee smile to myself when I think about it 😁And please go to your graduation and celebrate your success - it was the best day ever! 🎓🍾

Smilesinthesunshine · 16/05/2025 22:13

You are right to be proud of yourself. Please make sure you attend a graduation and get photographed in your gown. The OU graduation ceremonies are very relaxed and family friendly.

This^

The OU really know how to do a graduation ceremony. (Congratulations!)

notatinydancer · 16/05/2025 22:13

Fantastic achievement 🥳

YesHonestly · 16/05/2025 22:13

That is an incredible achievement OP, you SHOULD be really bloody proud!

Well done, you are amazing 🌟

lastminutetutor · 16/05/2025 22:14

Congratulations! I know how much work goes into a degree and you have earnt everyone of those marks. Love an OU graduation, people often bring their children along too. It is a real celebration of the years of hard work and dedication. It sounds like you might even have submitted ahead of the deadline which is always a good idea to prevent the last minute stress. Have you any plans to celebrate over the weekend?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 16/05/2025 22:16

Well done, OP! You should be very proud of yourself. I’m glad because I always like reading good news, especially got someone who deserves it 😀

Panterusblackish · 16/05/2025 22:18

You are utterly unreasonable.

You should be sitting there feeling super proud not just a litte bit!

Well done you

ShinySquirrel · 16/05/2025 22:20

Obviously I don't know you but I am so fucking proud of you. I have ADHD too. I see you. I see what you did and it's amazing.

Amiunemployable · 16/05/2025 22:23

Similar situation to me, OP!

But I did a FT degree around PT work. Primary school kid, sick mother, running the house, etc.

I graduated last year with a 2:1 then started an MA! I'm handing in my final Masters assignment this August!

Congratulations! You're amazing 👏

Brefugee · 16/05/2025 22:23

Well done, OP, that is something to be really proud of.

Do you know how long you have to wait to get your result?

(when people started being offered their degrees i swear i wore out my enter button refreshing my screen)

Enjoy the warm glow of a job well done!

Hairyfairy01 · 16/05/2025 22:24
