To not bother with Instagram after having a baby

It has put it into perspective for me - it’s mostly full of people trying to pretend they are happy. When actually, I’ve got all the happiness I need at home and don’t need to ‘prove’ anything to anyone.

It’s quite liberating, to be honest! I’ve not posted once since my DD’s arrival 7 months ago.

Did anyone find similar?

That’s quite an impressive superpower! I’ve had a baby, yet it didn’t give me the skill to be able to judge whether people on social media were happy or not. I’d use this power with cation if I were you, as those like me who haven’t experienced this may confuse your superpower with being sanctimonious.

ExtraOnions · 14/05/2025 18:30

…I thought social media was a 100% accurate reflection of people’s lives…. Now it turns out to be a careful curated set of images designed to convey a specific narrative - how disappointing

Bodonka · 14/05/2025 18:37

This just makes me feel a bit sad that you think that - I’m assuming because that’s why you posted before, but have just realised recently?

TBF I was doing shit mentally as a new parent when DS was born and questioning myself on everything. Getting likes or comments on how happy he looked genuinely made me feel like less of a crap parent 😂 Life is easier now and I spend less time on there and more on MN

mikado1 · 14/05/2025 18:38

How could you possibly be unreasonable for not being on SM that you don't want to be on?!

mondaytosunday · 14/05/2025 18:49

Uh, I never understood why anyone would want to post on instagram unless trying to sell something. So carry on.

BeeCucumber · 14/05/2025 18:51

I too do not understand why people post their lives on SM - who actually cares?

TinyTempest · 14/05/2025 18:52

Before you gave it up, why on earth were you using it to 'prove' anything to people? 😳

Why didn't you just use it normally?

I've never had an Instagram account so maybe I'm missing something?

minipie · 14/05/2025 18:52

I’ve deleted Instagram and am not missing it a tiny bit. I’m also getting to bed earlier.

Thankfully I haven’t had to have a baby to achieve this miracle 😆

CallMeFlo · 14/05/2025 18:53

I think that's quite rude actually. Plenty happy people post on Instagram and share happy moments of their life.

You do you but no need to run down people who use SM and are just as happy as you are with all the happiness you have at home. It is possible to do both

EmeraldRoulette · 14/05/2025 18:55

There's no law that you have to have an Instagram account. Weird question.

FanFanFanFanFan · 14/05/2025 19:00

Is this just another version of “having a child gave me purpose and I’ve now found the true meaning of life”?

Followed by if you don't have a child you don't know true happiness. Presumably the poor sods pretending to be happy don't have children

I hadn't thought of that!

Yes, I can see this being the 2025 version 😂

Imagine being child free and not posting on Instagram 😂 do I even exist?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/05/2025 19:14

I had to delete instagram as stacey Solomon's baby Rex was speaking even though he was born after my dd who had a speech delay

She's now diagnosed as being autistic and I'm really happy with her, just at the time, it was really scary and I was blaming myself

I don't blame you for deleting it. I was on TikTok the other day thinking - 5 years I've been on this app, what a waste of time

Brilliant 🤣🤣

I've got a new baby and I post on Instagram, I'm pretty happy tbh apart from normal things like tiredness! I don't do it to prove anything to anyone.
