Help- how can DD stop getting sweat patches on her blue school shirt? :(

My DD13 has to wear blue collared shirts for school, which on hot days like these can end up with sweat patches under the arms. She gets extremely self conscious about them and so now, even on the hottest of days will refuse to take off her jumper and has been getting a few headaches (which seem to be connected to her feeling even hotter). She was tearful after school today as had been doing food tech this afternoon and the additional heat from the ovens in the room had made her feel even worse.

DD washes daily under her arms and uses deodorant which she says she leaves to dry for a few minutes before putting her bra and shirt on. I really wish the uniform had a white shirt instead of blue because the sweat patches would be far less obvious 😞.

Is there anything else she can try that anyone else’s DCs have had success with? All suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.

She needs an antiperspirant not just a deodorant.

PiggieWig · 14/05/2025 18:01

Mitchum roll on deodorant

boobashka · 14/05/2025 18:01

My DD and I both swear by Driclor. Available from Boots etc. Apply on clean pits in the evening for a few nights. Stops the sweat. It's brilliant. Hope it helps your DD too.

Newusername3kidss · 14/05/2025 18:02

I went through an awful stage when I was a teen with sweating, never smelt but had wet patches. Driclor is the only thing that worked for me. Can sting when you have it on overnight but personally was worth it as dry the next day.

the ordinary glycolic acid under her armpits!

okydokethen · 14/05/2025 18:02

Exactly same problem here. 13 DD wears white and it’s just as bad because it goes yellow.

Why helps is buying more expensive cotton shirts, short sleeve if you’re allowed. DD has tried loads of different deodorants and said she is doubling up sometimes, she uses body spray or perfume and has deodorant and spray in her bag.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/05/2025 18:03

Agree needs a decent antiperspirant, not just a deodorant.

okydokethen · 14/05/2025 18:03

i love driclor but thought DD was too young, is it ok for 13?

TheOriginalCrazyLady · 14/05/2025 18:04

Is she washing her underarms with soap or shower gel? Soap definitely helps my underarms to be fresher, followed by mitchem roll on, topped off with mitchem spray. (I have hyperhydrosis)

outforawalkb · 14/05/2025 18:04

This, applied at night
they do a female version, I just prefer this scent
it will need soap and a flannel to get it off armpits though!

Marieme · 14/05/2025 18:05

What about the little patches you can stick on the inside of a shirt? They look like pantyliners and absorb the sweat, they could be used alongside a decent deodorant

FavouriteShirts · 14/05/2025 18:07

I had this exact problem when I was at school. The answer is Driclor or Perspirex. It does really sting the first time you use it though. Make sure your armpits are dry first. Do not shave them the day you will use it. Put it on before bed and allow it to dry before you lower your arms. Wear a T-shirt with sleeves so there is something separating the two bits of skin while it is working - I found this made a massive difference to how painful it was.

On subsequent nights when you use it the discomfort gets less and less and after a few nights I found about once a week was enough.

Obviously you use normal deodorant in the daytime as well.

It’s miles better than Mitchum.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 14/05/2025 18:07

A lot of antiperspirants can cause this too, or at least contribute to it. Every half term I use an Astonish stain remover spray, rinse that then soak in vanish for a few hours and then wash as normal. That seems to work for me on white shirts.

Serenitespringtime · 14/05/2025 18:08

Your poor daughter, it’s a horrible thing and not a good time to be feeling self conscious 💗
Mitchum is the best I’ve used - try all varieties, roll on, spray, cream.
You can get little pads to sew into clothes - I’ve only used them for occasion dresses but it might be worth looking at them to see if they help too.
I’d imagine this is beyond what you’d any to do but Botox is used to prevent/reduce sweating - maybe worth speaking to GP but start with Mitchem.
I tried Driclor but it brought my underarms out in a sore rash, really irritated my skin - but it works for some people so worth trying too.

Mischance · 14/05/2025 18:09

Mitchum stick.

FourLeafedToadstool · 14/05/2025 18:12

Driclor plus the sure deo stick, maximum protection. There's also a women's version, smells nicer!

BlueMum16 · 14/05/2025 18:14

I bought Mitchum antiperspirant for my DC. It's really good.

Noshadelamp · 14/05/2025 18:14

I have sensitive skin and use Triple Dry roll on in fresh scent for women. It only stings if I've just shaved under my arms.
It works the same as driclor and perspirex where you use it every night for a week and then after that you can use it every other day.

There's a few you can try, give them all a good week to see if they suit your daughter.

fatgirlswims · 14/05/2025 21:52

Sure max protection crème is the best!

I found it Better than driclor that stings and Mitchum roll on is sticky.

scrub armpits using a rough cloth and soap or hibiscus at night and apply the sure max.

in the morning, top
up with a sure or dove normal
a antiperspirant spray

caringcarer · 14/05/2025 21:54

She needs antipersirant. Spray, let it dry then spray on deodorant. It works for stinky teen boys who do a lot of sports so will work for your DD.

Summergarden · 14/05/2025 22:05

Wow, so many brilliant suggestions. Thanks all. Will be buying several of these to try and here’s hoping.

Mitchum roll on works for dd. It's very good.

onwards2025 · 14/05/2025 22:16

When I was at my worst with this and during a particularly memorable heat wave the sure cream maximum was the best, apply at night. For the last year the Mitchum roll on is working really well for me. I find some the k white marks one better than their standard version.

Everything else just lets me down within a couple of hours.

Maddy70 · 14/05/2025 22:17

The only thing that really works for me is dove creme anti persperant.
