Help- how can DD stop getting sweat patches on her blue school shirt? :(

My DD13 has to wear blue collared shirts for school, which on hot days like these can end up with sweat patches under the arms. She gets extremely self conscious about them and so now, even on the hottest of days will refuse to take off her jumper and has been getting a few headaches (which seem to be connected to her feeling even hotter). She was tearful after school today as had been doing food tech this afternoon and the additional heat from the ovens in the room had made her feel even worse.

DD washes daily under her arms and uses deodorant which she says she leaves to dry for a few minutes before putting her bra and shirt on. I really wish the uniform had a white shirt instead of blue because the sweat patches would be far less obvious 😞.

Is there anything else she can try that anyone else’s DCs have had success with? All suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.

She won't be the only one suffering in silence. The school need to change to white shirts.
My son is self conscious about possible sweat marks and sticks to white t-shirts, as well as a good antiperspirant.

Women Vest Underarm Sweat Patch Shield Pads Short Sleeve

DD2 been trying these and liking.

Prior to this she just kept cardigan on.

Bodyspray or deodorant won’t cut it for the sweatier amongst us . When I met my husband first he didn’t know there was a difference and was picking them up interchangeably and couldn’t understand how sometimes he was smelly and sometimes he wasn’t!

Drivingmissrangey · 14/05/2025 23:25

I think this is something lots of teenage girls go through. Driclor worked for me. Don’t think I’ve had to use it since I left uni though,
I don’t suffer in the same way anymore.

Hufflemuff · 14/05/2025 23:26

Another vote for Mitchum roll on!

I also squirt a bit of deoderant spray on the top on really hot days! I can be such a sweaty cow.

Pinkchilli · 14/05/2025 23:29

another vote for Mitchum! I had thyroid issues which made me sweat A lot as a teen so I empathise

Serenitespringtime · 14/05/2025 23:30

I’m pretty sure it makes a difference to wash with bar soap rather than shower gel too

Summersunshinebliss · 14/05/2025 23:31

I would try Wild @Summergarden I put some on this morning after my shower and I still smell lovely.

My DD and I both swear by Driclor. Available from Boots etc. Apply on clean pits in the evening for a few nights. Stops the sweat. It's brilliant. Hope it helps your DD too.

this. I got prescribed it over 20 years ago and it made such a difference to me after suffering in high school (also a blue shirt) no one in my family had the same issue. My teen isnthe same as me sadly and got her it last year. It works as long as you use it properly, on days like today i still sweat and can sometimes even feel wet under arm but never the big sweat patches!

coxesorangepippin · 15/05/2025 01:29

I had this exact problem! I used to go and dry the armpits if my shirt under the hand dryer in the bathroom

peskypanda · 15/05/2025 01:45

showering right before bed and putting deodorant on at night and again in the morning helped me. Otherwise I would sweat it off in the morning right after I’d put it on

outforawalkb · 14/05/2025 18:04

This, applied at night
they do a female version, I just prefer this scent
it will need soap and a flannel to get it off armpits though!

Am I the only one to not understand "male" and "female" deodorants/anti perspirants?
Do men sweat diffrently?

It's what they smell of. Women's usually have feminine scents, while men's are more of the Lynx/macho variety.

aintnospringchicken · 15/05/2025 02:12

Another vote for Mitchum. I wore blue scrubs at work and sometimes got wet patches under my arms which showed on my scrub top. Switched to using Mitchum roll on or solid stick and never had a problem with wet patches after that.

Blackkittenfluff · 15/05/2025 02:25

Perspirex. Available in all pharmacies. It's a roll on antiperspirant. Put it on clean, totally dry skin before going to bed. Wash it off the next day. Works a treat.

ItWillBeDone · 15/05/2025 02:59

I've tried many of those recommended but they've been too harsh - stinging or leaving a rash. What's worked for me is Sure Maximum protection and I recently discovered Make Waves (online) which is refillable - that works too and is better tor the environment.

WaryHiker · 15/05/2025 03:07

This is the part of Mumsnet I really love. I read a similar thread two days ago, and this arrived today! I hadn't heard of it before but decided to order it because so many people recommended it.

Mind you, this post will probably now appear on Mumsnet swears by under an advertisement for Mitchum!

It's life changing this stuff. Stings like a bastard but you don't sweat at all.

LilacPony · 15/05/2025 04:35

Mitchum didn’t fully work for me. For me it’s Vichy 72 hour stress resist anti perspirant.
I find my body goes in waves. Something will work for me for 6 - 12 months and then stop working. I have a shower at night, then put on Vichy. Then a shower in the morning and put on Mitchum.

What about the little patches you can stick on the inside of a shirt? They look like pantyliners and absorb the sweat, they could be used alongside a decent deodorant

Was going to suggest this.

As a teen I had awful sweat problems and it was so embarrassing. My mum ended up sewing little pads (like shoulder pads) under the arms to catch the sweat and then wash daily.

Yes - it is life changing.

If your pits are totally bone dry it shouldn't sting too much.
Also - no physical exercise at all once its applied until wash off next morning.

GemmaCalmDown · 15/05/2025 11:24

Dh sweats a lot. He cannot wear Dri-Clor as he reacts horribly to it and any other one of those products. He never thought this would work but he wears a white t shirt under his shirts. The t shirt absorbs the sweat not the shirt and it is a wick away sweat one.

Also cool underwear, so again he wears underwear specifically designed to keep you cool.

MiddleAgedDread · 15/05/2025 11:35

does she wear short sleeved shirts too?

Summergarden · 23/05/2025 23:45

Thanks for the new suggestions.

I decided to try the Sure 96 hour deodorant that someone recommended here before progressing to the stronger ones that can sting if necessary. So far so good with the Sure, it seems to be keeping her drier than any others she’s tried which is great.
