Comfortable Trainers

Aquarius1234 · 12/05/2025 23:07

AIBU to never be able to find a pair of comfortable trainers.
We are talking walking about towns/ cities, generally weekend trainers/ days/ evenings etc.

I've tried many brands. Maybe I'm too old..

I can’t help, but I hear you! I have the same issue wearing through the toe. Trainers are ok for the gym but not for walking distances. And so many that might be comfortable look like what my grandmother wore! Ok, I am in the age bracket, but still!!!

curtaintwitcher78 · 13/05/2025 05:52

Asics gel soles are sooo comfy in every way. No breaking in, and I have delicate feet like nectarines 😂

FitFlop trainers are comfy but one pair I got did rub my Achilles heel at first. Now they're perfect. Got rid of my plantar fasciitis.

Caspianberg · 13/05/2025 05:56

Giesswein

They are the only trainers I can always buy size 38 in and they always fit. Every other brand it depends on shoe and how they change yearly. And I have never had blister from day 1.

bloodredfeaturewall · 13/05/2025 06:07

what stos you from using your usual footwear from walking a lot?
of is it the look you like?
I don't like skechers, but love hiking shoes (look like normal lace up shoes) for walkkng a lot.

WhiteRosesAndThistles · 13/05/2025 06:12

If your toe is going through the front you are not a size 6! You need a 6.5.
Before you wear them to walk miles wear them for a few days around the house to break them in, use your hands to soften any areas of concern.
At the end of the day you can't expect a mass produced product to fit perfectly on the first wear (if it does it is pure luck!) - marathon runners trainers look like they are falling apart because they spend so long getting them comfortable enough to run in!

dottiedodah · 13/05/2025 06:18

Aquarius1234 I hear you! Bad ankle.sore knee .I love Hotter trainers .so comfy and long lasting. Do we and eee as well.half sizes too.

Hokabondi8 · 13/05/2025 06:28

i just bought some Hoka Bondi 8 (they were cheaper as last years model, they just released the bondi 9) super comfy for walking and all day wear. But you need to go up a size i am normally a size 10 - i ended up buying size 11.5 . For all day walking or hiking you need to go up a size to allow room in the toe box, you should be able to easily fit a finger behind your heel. They felt slight too big at first (compared to my other shoes) but are amazingly comfortable and now all my other shoes that “fit” feel too small and uncomfortable pinching my toes.

Catsinaflat · 13/05/2025 06:29

Nike Vomero 5s are so comfortable. I always wear them if I have a lot of walking to do. I have just bought my third pair!
I also love my ON Cloudmonsters though you have to size up with them. They are quite bouncy to walk in and not tiring on the legs.

nagnagnag · 13/05/2025 06:32

After years of PF and trying all the recommended comfortable trainers, I’ve found ASICS Gel Cumulus 25 are the most supportive and bouncy trainers.

GraveAndQuiet · 13/05/2025 06:35

I find trainers designed for road running are the most comfortable for walking. My most comfortable pair ever came from Nike- you can go to their website and specify road running in the search. However they were flyknit fabric ( for lightness, I assume) so were not much use in wet weather and they didn't last as long as suede/ leather.

LaserCatToyLunacy · 13/05/2025 06:36

Hoka trainers have changed my life.

Missywelliot · 13/05/2025 06:39

You need a decent trainer from a running shop for all day walking. One with a curved, supportive sole from Brooks, Asics, Saucony, Hoka, Nike, Puma etc. Something for road running as Grave mentioned.

Sketchers and flat soled trainers aren't ideal for walking.

Tulipsunflower · 13/05/2025 06:39

M&S new balance dupes are my comfiest trainers. So soft.

user1471457354 · 13/05/2025 06:40

New Balance 327's are the comfiest trainers I've ever owned. They didn't need breaking in at all and I've waked miles and miles in them without blisters!

LynetteScavo · 13/05/2025 06:41

I’ve been wearing New Balance 530 for the past year and love them. I now wear them at work (I walk to work and no longer change into smart shoes) even though they’re not at all work wear. I shall be buying another pair.

QuartzIlikeit · 13/05/2025 06:47

New balance are the most comfortable trainers I've ever owned

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 13/05/2025 06:49

My favourite walking trainers are Hoff City or New Balance 327. Skechers aren't supportive enough for me, I need my foot to be held in place.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/05/2025 07:37

If you want comfortable trainers for walking a lot, go for the construction not the look. Go to a trainer shop to get assessed and get some proper advice. What sort of style do you need - neutral, stability?

I pronate so wear HOKA Gaviota 5 which is a stability shoe and it is super comfortable. I walk miles and miles a day in them with no issue.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 13/05/2025 07:41

I had a pair from M&S that were like slippers from day one. They lasted well and were really cute, had a star on the side. I mourned those when they finally fell apart (after a lot of use).

At the expensive end, I find my Air & Graces very comfortable. They live in their box and are treated with loving care 🤣

Mapletreelane · 13/05/2025 07:46

OP, if you are getting blisters on your toes then your trainers are too small. With a lot of walking your feet will swell which is why you need a bigger size. I am size 5 but have size 6.5 Asics GT2000 which are soooo comfortable. They may feel slightly loose but then you use the laces to tighten the trainer . Leaves plenty of room to stop swollen toes from rubbing. I would also recommend double layer anti blister hiking or running socks, which you can easily find online. Steer clear of cotton socks as they can be rough on your toes..

Dumbdog · 13/05/2025 07:52

Your feet swell when you do lots of walking or running. I was told to get a size up when I got my gait analysed so always get trainers in a 6.5 or 7.

Maybe try that?

I find converse the comfiest regular trainers and Vivo are my go to for barefoot, but they need a bit of getting used to.

myrtle70 · 13/05/2025 08:04

Keen targhee hiking shoes have a wide toe box but they are heavier than a trainer

decemberdecember · 13/05/2025 08:15

Purely for long walks, I have these - Nike Pegasus Trail 5: https://www.nike.com/gb/t/pegasus-trail-5-trail-running-shoes-vB2WEZGT

They’re trail running shoes, so they’re fairly chunky, and I therefore wouldn’t wear them with a dress in the evening etc, but to walk in they’re brilliant. I’ve done numerous city breaks and days out in them, walking 10, 20, 30 miles.

I even persuaded DP to buy some and he wears them all the time now too. We’re both runners but use these strictly for walking (although he quite happily wears his popping to town etc).

I would always order at least half a size up with these sorts of shoe, and wear sports (running) socks, never fashion socks.

ASICS! Best thing for wide toes!! So comfy. I think also you can return in the first 60 days if you discover they are not comfortable. I have the kayano ones which are pricey but ended up wearing them every day for the last 3 years!

PullTheBricksDown · 13/05/2025 08:35

I'm size 6 and Nikes are always comfortable. Does sound like you might be 6.5 if you keep finding your toes go through. That's never happened to me even after years.
