Breastfeeding while pregnant

Hi. Just wondering about breastfeeding while pregnant. Is it safe in first trimester? Worried about womb contractions (esp as older mum). Any positive or negative experiences? Many thanks

I breastfed through my third pregnant and then tandem fed DC2 and DC3 for a month (before DC2 stopped herself).
no problems for me really. I’m pretty sure my milk dried up around 20 weeks and my DC dry nursed for the rest of the time. I remember feeling quite touched out and very much did it so my child didn’t feel pushed out. Feeding was quite painful again as my nipples were very sensitive. But no problems or complications.

I breastfed throughout pregnancy and tandem nursed - had milk throughout and tandem nursed. No issues here.

I breastfed up til 20 weeks then dried out as there is evidence it increases milk production as compared to feeding throughout pregnancy. I extended bf all my kids so wanted to optimise things. Kids are all IVF btw and I was mid 40s. 😃
Good luck with your pregnancy

Like other PPs, I breastfed throughout pregnancy and then tandem-fed. My milk did dry up and I had an aversion to BFing but I continued because DC wanted to. I had to deliver at 33 weeks (placental death - cause unknown).

I had so much colustrum and then huge amounts of milk. DD was premature so unable to drink much and DS fed mornings and evenings so the rest I donated to the hospital milk-bank. Also, no wearing-in of nipples for second child was a bonus!

I do not know for sure what caused my placenta to die. I have some theories (diarrhoeal infection requiring hospitalisation) but if your concern is about prematurity, talk to your midwife.

I was told by midwives that it's safe

I had to stop around 20 weeks because my pregnancy sickness was just so bad and feeding made it even worse. No problems for the toddler or baby though - just me!

I breastfed dc1 whilst pregnant with dc2.
Dc1 was 2.5 and still having a feed before bed or before a nap and one when she woke up.
My milk supply was fine but I think the taste changed as dd decided one day she didn’t want it anymore (after being boob mad!)
I was 7 months pregnant at that stage. All was ok.
(I was 37 when I had dc 2)

The midwife said risk is extremely low and not something I should worry about personally.

I fed until about 20 weeks. At that point I still had milk, but I believe it changed flavour and DS , aged 18 months, didn’t want it anymore. He was very polite about it 😂

Absolutely no issues.

Keep in mind that that BFing while pregnant can change the level of hormones (duh) and that there is so little literature on it (because screw women’s health right?) that your midwifes might see this on the blood tests and request regular growth scans. I went through that nonsense.
