To give up on getting rid of my verrucas?

So I’ve had Veruccas for like 5 years and they won’t go away for anything. They don’t really bother me so I’m thinking about just giving up and just living with them. But it would be nice if they would go away because I would like to be able to get wear sandals and get pedicures again. :)

I’m thinking about just ignoring them! They don’t bother me at all! It’s just means not pedicures or sandals for me. :(

One day, as a child, a big one on my big toe stuck to my sock due to the cream I was using and I pulled and it pulled it totally off! Never came back again.

WorriedRelative · 10/05/2025 09:13

I had loads and several were painful. They persisted for YEARS and I tried EVERYTHING.

I spent a fortune on over the counter remedies, tried the stronger stuff the pharmacist can dispense multiple times, had something prescribed, filed them, hacked at them, took thuja, used the home freezing kits, had the doctor try freezing them. None of it worked.

Eventually I gave up. After a while I noticed them changing and they disappeared on their own!

Dry heat is amazing for verrucas. I had one very persistent one killed off by walking on very hot sand on the beach. Had another persistent one years later - remembered what had happened, but didn't have a beach budget... Killed it by regularly sitting with my foot right in front of a space heater.

Itsjustnotthevibe · 10/05/2025 09:26

I had a few, one on my little toe that rubbed when I wore shoes so I had to get rid. I filed them, used salactol and gaffer tape over the top, repeated once a week and they did go after a couple of months. Covering them is the most important thing according to the chiropodist I saw.

Missedthis · 10/05/2025 09:29

Pregnancy got rid of mine.

Granted, not a solution without side effects.

DollyTots · 10/05/2025 09:37

I’m with you. Childbirth got rid of several I had across both feet for 5 years. A whole new set then quickly appeared and I’m 10 years in with these ones.

I’ve managed to cut the majority out countless times and treat with high strength bazuka but they persist. I’ve tried so many different things and I don’t have the money or the will to keep throwing at them.

I’ve had them since I was a child and honestly don’t remember a time anymore where I didn’t have verrucas!

Old wives tale, rub verucca with a piece of raw meat, bury the meat in the garden and as it rots the verucca will shrivel up and drop off. Worth a try 😆

SoMentallyDrained · 10/05/2025 10:01

Banana trick worked for me

JDM625 · 10/05/2025 10:03

I saw a dermatologist who used a laser on mine. This was many years ago and abroad. I had 2/3 sessions and they never came back.

If you've tried freezing/home remedies etc I'd be seeing a podiatrist or ideally a dermatologist.

I had an horrific one on the side of my foot for years. Nothing over the counter worked … went on a weekend away with a hot tub and it disappeared a week later.

God knows what chemical they use 🤷🏼‍♀️

🤢🤮🤮

DeepWriter · 10/05/2025 10:11

Honestly same. I’ve had Veruccas most of my life. I might be Veruccas free for a year or two but they just keep coming back. Do your verrucas ever bother you? I wonder why were we have verrucas haha

BarneyOreilly · 10/05/2025 10:20

I had one for about five years which I gave up on and it disappeared never to return. Your immune system has to decide to fight it really. Before that when I had one I went to a chiropodist who put strong acid on it and it dropped off over a month or so. And I took Thuja supplements.

Lemonz · 10/05/2025 10:22

I've had verrucas for nearly 20 years. I gave up on them long ago. I doubt they'll ever go. They are quite small and not painful so I can't be bothered to keep fighting a losing battle.

Campbellcarrotsoup · 10/05/2025 10:25

The private chiropodists charge an arm and a leg to freeze verrucas and it's not that effective. I frequently have them. I have had two for 10 years they've just disappeared . I stopped trying to treat them 5 years ago. Still got one stubborn little bugger left. I occasionally get little warts on my fingers but they disappear quickly with bazuka but I also thi k that's cause i notice them immediately. We just have a genet8c predisposition and maybe a slightly weakened immune system

MsDDxx · 10/05/2025 10:26

I had a couple for years.

They disappeared as soon as I got pregnant.

You could try that?

DeepWriter · 10/05/2025 10:27

I’m already pregnant and they’re still here haha. I’ve actually got a couple new ones.

I couldn't get rid of mine from over the counter stuff. Turns out if you have an auto immune condition then it's highly likely they won't work.

I tried the Swift treatment with a podiatrist and was the best money I ever spent. You need approximately three treatments (one a month). It can hurt but only while they are doing it.

Daisiesanddaffodils24 · 10/05/2025 10:36

Vitamin A is supposed to be effective but NEVER use while pregnant or trying to get pregnant as it can harm your baby.

Banana trick worked for me

Same here...years of them in a cluster. Tried with banana peels on foot after hearing about it and within a week they were gone.

Wrapped banana peel over the area, used tape and then wore a sock overnight.

Did you just do this overnight or keep on in the day too.

Mine has definitely improved with duct tape

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 10/05/2025 10:46

I had two for months and tried everything. Then I slightly broke the skin on my foot next to one while filing, by accident. The verruca was gone in a couple of days. I then nicked the skin of my foot deliberately next to the other verruca, and then that one fell out too.

However, I'd just started trying Wartner pens at the time, so maybe it was the pen that did it.

MymblesMother · 10/05/2025 10:49

I had several really stubborn veruccas that didn’t respond to over the counter treatments. I went to see a chiropodist regularly who used a topical treatment initially with limited success, then she used a silver nitrate pencil and also cut away the skin/top of the veruccas to get the treatment right into the verucca. I went fortnightly for a couple of months and the veruccas completely cleared up. This was several years ago and touch wood they have never returned.

DeepWriter · 10/05/2025 10:54

How many do you have? I have 10.

OP posts:
seaduck · 10/05/2025 10:56

I had swift treatment at the podiatrist, it was expensive and painful but it worked. I think if you have lots (I had just one absolutely massive stubborn one, it was the size of a 20p coin and very painful to walk on) the pain might be a barrier though. It's quick pain over in a second, and doesnt hurt afterwards but is really bad in the moment.
