WIBU to make up my own shifts

I work in retail. Newish to the company. Got a new manager about a month ago who I'm yet to meet.
My rota hasn't been done for next week, or infact any time in the next three weeks.

I asked a different manager to pass on a note to ask if it could be done, didn't hear anything back. I left a note before my scheduled days off, asking for it to be done. Didn't hear anything

I've phoned up the shop today, to be told my manager isn't in for a few days now and no other managers will do the rota.

I need to sort childcare. I'm off for three days, so by the time I go back it'll be 24 hours (possibly) notice to sort childcare

WIBU (if my rota doesn't get completed) to just make my own shifts for next week

You can try, but if they decide to produce a rota you’ll be expected to do those shifts

I get that, but the manager is off until Sunday
It's a bit unfair for 24 hours notice imo

You can make that argument but they can still say these are the required shifts and that childcare isn’t your employer’s responsibility.

It is shit though, I had this at one of my first jobs, we would often get the rota for the following week literally the day before the week started. Nothing you can do other than obviously look for another job if it happens often

Yeah it happened last week for this week too. People weren't coming in when they were supposed to because the schedule shows them as being off so they've made their own shifts so I don't see it being changed
