Sounds mad but it’s true, honest! If you have 3 kids…

Same dad, no miscarriages to ‘break the chain’, if the first 2 are opposite sex, the third will be whatever number 2 was - so BGG, or GBB. Not BGB, or GBG.

It sounds crazy but it’s something I noticed ages ago - every time somebody announces they’re having a third, and they have one of each, I know it will be the same as the second child.

Prove me wrong, Mumsnetters!

My mum had BBG.

alsohappenedoverhere · 07/05/2025 20:22

True

Upsetbetty · 07/05/2025 20:20

I’m struggling to see any solid stats to be fair…
it could be any mix
bbb
ggg
bgb
gbg
ggb
bbg

my nan had ggg
my other nan had bbgggbbbg

most families in my family are bg
one is ggg
one is bgg
one is bbbb

First two are meant to be opposites so no bb or gg.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/05/2025 20:23

I’m one of a GBG. No miscarriages.

everyone I know with three is GBG.

Emelene · 07/05/2025 20:23

I’m having GBG, currently pregnant with my 3rd. Surely it’s 50/50 for each sex?

ItGhoul · 07/05/2025 20:23

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:03

Just to clarify I don’t mean it’s true in every single instance - but more than it should be statistically if that makes sense? So 80%+ of the time (my very scientific anecdata!)

Nope, still bullshit.

FWIW I’m the third child in my family and we’re GBG. My brother’s kids are BGBG.

Newusernameforthiss · 07/05/2025 20:28

No.

The ones I know
GBG
GBG
GBG
BGG

I would say the exact opposite to you 🙃

FcukTheDay · 07/05/2025 20:29

I have GBGG

mummysmagicmedicine · 07/05/2025 20:29

My mum had BGBG

Quercus3 · 07/05/2025 20:29

I have GBG, know 2 others with the same

Member984815 · 07/05/2025 20:30

I'm one of 5 bgbgb same dad no miscarriages

Allmarbleslost · 07/05/2025 20:30

I have two family members who have 3 kids; GGB and GBG

Constance1 · 07/05/2025 20:31

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:15

You’ll all notice it now I’ve said it!

It's not true though. Just did a quick mental tally of people I know and including my own I know 7 families with 3 kids where the middle child is a different sex than the oldest and youngest; and 4 where the two oldest are the same sex and the youngest is the opposite sex. In my circle of friends and family there is only one BGG family..

makemineadecaf · 07/05/2025 20:32

GGB

CharlotteCChapel · 07/05/2025 20:33

I have BBG, DD has BBB, one gran had BBB and the other GGG.

Horses7 · 07/05/2025 20:33

Utter tosh! 🙈

BlueMum16 · 07/05/2025 20:35

Someone I know has BB and then twin girls.

CalleOcho · 07/05/2025 20:37

no miscarriages to ‘break the chain’

Wow what an awful way to refer to miscarriages.

GRCP · 07/05/2025 20:38

My mum had GBB(GGG)
DB had BBG so I guess doesn’t count
Friend had GBB(B)
Trying to think of other people who had 3 DC with same partner…

Vogue Williams had BGB but wouldn’t know if she had losses

lljkk · 07/05/2025 20:38

Hard for me to comment because my mom had miscarriages (she lost count, she wasn't bothered by them) and otherwise I don't know who had miscarriages when. My guess is that most of us don't know about anyone else's miscarriages, so most of us have no clue.

I never had a misc & had BGBB, so doesn't fit OP's theory.

Tavimama · 07/05/2025 20:39

Nope. I was the oldest, then my sister, then our brother, so: GGB

TroysMammy · 07/05/2025 20:39

I know a lot of two of the same and the third or fourth are the same too so BBB or GGGG. Some of my cousins BGGG, GGG, BGG, BGGB, BBB, GGG, and only one set GBtwinG.

Montsti · 07/05/2025 20:39

Mine are BGGG

Strawberryorangejuice · 07/05/2025 20:40

Erm yep, that works here! I'm trying to think of who else I know to prove the theory!

PeloMom · 07/05/2025 20:41

Nope. I know of many BGB combinations.
