Sounds mad but it’s true, honest! If you have 3 kids…

Same dad, no miscarriages to ‘break the chain’, if the first 2 are opposite sex, the third will be whatever number 2 was - so BGG, or GBB. Not BGB, or GBG.

It sounds crazy but it’s something I noticed ages ago - every time somebody announces they’re having a third, and they have one of each, I know it will be the same as the second child.

Prove me wrong, Mumsnetters!

Sorry not true I know a couple families that go BGB or GBG. In my own family it goes BBGG.

I think it's human nature to spot patterns buy o I don't think this is a thing

Zanatdy · 07/05/2025 20:13

Boy, Boy, Girl.

It’s just something I’ve noticed - every time somebody with a boy and a girl announces they’re expecting number 3 I think ‘oh yeah that’ll be a boy/girl’ depending on what number 2 was, and sure enough I always seem to be right!

I think the thread has put the kibosh on a future in baby predicting! 😂

OhMyMirror · 07/05/2025 20:14

I have BBBGB

blueberryshake · 07/05/2025 20:14

I don’t think it’s true, to be honest. I have two friends with three - one has boy, girl, boy and the other one has girl, biy, girl.

Of course I can’t know for sure no miscarriages or affairs took place but we’re close and I’m pretty sure I’d have been told.

SnoozingFox · 07/05/2025 20:14

To be fair, you have a 50/50 chance of guessing it right. And you probably forget about all the times you got it wrong.

Even though I know this can't be legit, I'm annoyed at those saying it can't be true because they don't see it in friends and relatives or celebrities, because there is no way of knowing if there were miscarriages or terminations in-between or even if the paternity was the same.

And the same applies to the "confirming" examples.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 07/05/2025 20:15

That’s entertainingly bonkers but no, in no way is that true.

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:15

You’ll all notice it now I’ve said it!

It's definitely not true.

How on earth could an embryo or your body possibly know what happened to an embryo from X years ago?

Come on...

TryingToBeHelpful267 · 07/05/2025 20:16

Nope not true, BBB with the same dad.

Poonu · 07/05/2025 20:16

In my family GGB

Katemax82 · 07/05/2025 20:17

I've got, BGBB

TURNYOURCAPSLOCKOFF · 07/05/2025 20:17

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:15

You’ll all notice it now I’ve said it!

That's just confirmation bias...

Plus how can you possibly know that ALL of your examples are "continuous" sets of babies? How on earth would you know if woman had a miscarriage or not? Sometimes the woman doesn't even know!

BunnyLake · 07/05/2025 20:18

Weirdly I only know three families with three children and every one of them are boys.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/05/2025 20:18

People I know with 3 or more kids:
BGB
GGB
G BG twins
G BG twins
BGBB
BBB
BBG
BBGB
GBG

so no to your theory!

BunnyLake · 07/05/2025 20:20

TryingToBeHelpful267 · 07/05/2025 20:16

Nope not true, BBB with the same dad.

Don’t the first two have to be one of each?

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:15

But most replies are showing that it's not true! I'm loving how delulu you are about it though lol!

Koaka · 07/05/2025 20:20

Upsetbetty · 07/05/2025 20:20

YouBelongWithMe · 07/05/2025 20:21

BGG here. We had an early mc between the first and second.

Daffodilsarefading · 07/05/2025 20:22

Well I’m not sure if one of the women I know did have a miscarriage but off the top of my head non of the parents I know with 3 dcs fit your theory.
I know of: GBG, GBG, BBG, GBG.

Nunaluna · 07/05/2025 20:22

This post proves it (kinda) - the 2 same sex siblings are always in a row, with BGB or GBG being the rarest combination.

Most 3s I know happen to be as OP describes when I think about it, but there are definitely exceptions. I don't have many friends with more than two though.
