Severe pain, told to “forget about it”

I’ve been experiencing pain in my abdomen for two months, it’s increasingly gotten worse. I saw my GP on 3 separate occasions, had blood tests and was referred for an ultrasound.
Last week the pain was so severe I went to A&E, I was kept in for two days and had an ultrasound & blood tests. Doctors couldn’t find anything wrong and discharged me with painkillers.
i attended the ward twice more in agony, had a CT scan and two more loads of blood tests. All of which were clear, yet I am still in severe pain. Alongside this I have become very dizzy and have blacked out twice (I am anaemic and I fear all the bloods they took have made this worse).
I visited my GP again today as I cannot function with the pain and dizziness, I am bedridden and am having to have family members help me look after my children. My GP told me today to forget about the pain and it will go away.

i am so upset, and fed up. I know that it is very reassuring that the scans showed nothing, yet why am I still in so much pain?!

has anyone had any experience of abdo pain that went away?

Aww thank you! I’m pretty much the same, except I’m now experiencing pains in the left side, and in my legs and feet. Some days are more bearable than others.
GP now wants to investigate for endometriosis and has referred me for an urgent scan on the pelvis. I have also been referred for physio & counselling.
Thank you for asking, I hope you are well xx

Im back in bed today, although managed the beach yesterday with the kids.

I’ve got a pelvis and abdominal CT scan on Wednesday and been trying to ponder what is the least worse thing to find. Been referred to gastroenterology but not even been given an appointment date yet. If CT comes back clear im going to see if the GP can refer me for a colonoscopy. I’d really just like a diagnosis at this point.

Aww it’s so hard isn’t it. Good luck for your scan on Wednesday. It’s so difficult to stay positive when you’re not getting any better, and don’t have any answers.
always here if you want to chat xx

I hope.its an MRI. Ultrasound is useless in picking up endo unless you have endometriomas (cysts). That is the only bit that showed up on my US. MRI found more areas but when they went it, it was in multiple places which wouldn't even show up on MRI. You need a referral to an endo specialist really. Even normal gynaecologists are great in dealing with endo, let alone a GP.

Can I just say sounds like you are really going through it, as some one with 4 endometriosis please just be aware it doesn’t always show on scans and your GP should now this and get a laparoscopic investigation underrwa., can I also add if you have a lap you or get endo diagnosed please read up on ablation vs excision surgey and don’t allow any gyne near your insides with ablation, you have a right to refuse this procedure and wait for an excision fully trained surgeon.

i know that’s lots of take in but is so critical to advocate as you are really in pain and need support now to navigate the next stages.

sending big hugs.

I'm so sorry that sounds awful 💐 It does sound like it could be endo but there are some other things that can cause abdominal pain like pelvic inflammatory disease or inflammatory bowel? Did anything different happen before the pain started? Like a virus or a change in diet or anything else different.
Sometimes post viral conditions can cause all kinds of odd symptoms? Really hope you get some answers and some relief soon ❤

Just to update:

I was re-scanned for the swollen lymph nodes in my lung. I got the result today and there is no change and no further action required!

The GP thinks that what I am suffering is the result of the burnout I had around 12 months ago, I have never fully recovered. I think at this point I would agree. Dr said as a result I have weakened muscles and joints. I have been referred for physiotherapy, and counselling. I think talking about the things I saw and dealt with at work will definitely help. I have also resigned from my job. I will give myself a couple of months to build up my strength and look for something in a less demanding sector.

Thank you to you all for walking with me to this point, your support has been amazing.

@Glitterballofdreams Good luck. Hopefully that's all it is, but it's good to be aware that it's extremely common for drs to dismiss women's physical health issues as just stress, not trying to scare you but I would just keep an eye on your symptoms. x

Oh I know! I’m quietly confident with the tests I’ve had done, however I won’t stop asking for answers until I feel better
