Dog poo!

DameDoggieDoo · 05/05/2025 23:05

Currently holidaying in beautiful south Devon on a rather affluent stretch of coast - there are a lot of dogs here too!

The number of bags of fresh / recent dog poo seemingly "abandoned" on stunning coastal footpaths is quite surprising to me. I I am not a dog owner myself, but do get that you might not want to carry a hot turd with you for miles - so AIBU to give dog owners the benefit of the doubt and imagine they have left the bag somewhere they can collect it on their return leg? My DP says I am.

If you are a dog owner who sometimes leaves bags of poo on or near the path, do you always go back for it? This isn't a goady post, I am genuinely interested to know what is going through your mind when you bag it but don't bin it? Do you intend to collect it later or do you imagine that a ranger will walk the path daily to collect litter? Or do you just think that it will eventually biodegrade in a tidy way if it's bagged and left away from the main footfall?

I have no intention of leaving litter or poo bags.

At least you admit to being a litterbug, I guess. Gross.

Litterbugs dump their rubbish and don't return so wind your neck in drama llama.

Well, let's hope you don't get fined for leaving your shit on the path one day, or that your dogs don't come across someone else's dumped shit and roll in it or rip it open on a walk.

It's not hard to carry it around with you - I walk 12-14 dogs a day and manage it just fine.

At least it’s shit in a bag….my horror is fucking cat shit in my flowers. If you have a cat then keep it indoors and let it shit in your kitchen, not in my garden.
Anyone defending cats can send me their address and I’ll post the shit to you.

GeorgianaM · 06/05/2025 17:49

I have a lot of big dogs. I buy those half size bags from
M&S and put my poop bags into the one bag.

apart from making it easier to carry it looks nicer than holding a bunch of plastic bags filled with poop.

Relaxaholic · 06/05/2025 17:50

It’s really gross and definitely not acceptable. I always carry the poo bag with me. If it was a long walk, I would bag it then put the bag in a plastic tub which I could put in my backpack. I don’t understand how anyone could be so selfish as to think hanging a poo bag for all to see is an ok thing to do, regardless of whether they are returning for it. Please stop

Maddy70 · 06/05/2025 17:54

I do sometimes leave it bagged to collect on the way back. I always collect it

Balloonhearts · 06/05/2025 17:58

I always get it on the way back. I need one hand for the leads and the other to hold my small child's hand and DC absolutely cannot be trusted not to dick about with a bag of shit. 😆

On the way back when they're knackered, I hand off one of the dogs lead to DC to hold.

chattyness · 06/05/2025 18:02

I've got a bag with a separate compartment in specifically for filled poop bags, so if I have to pick up after my dog it goes in there & gets taken home. We often see poop bagson the path or hanging in trees 😑 but we know who most of them belong to and they do usually get picked up on their way back. But strangers don't even bother to bag it, they just leave it !

You need a dicky bag attached to a dog walking belt or just clipped on to your normal bag.

RedPanda901 · 06/05/2025 18:40

I’ve often wondered why people do this too! See it regularly in my city.

I don't take a bag, I don't have a hand free to carry one and clipping it to a belt is not a good idea with a small child who frequently needs carrying.

Bum bag? Cross shoulder bag? Backpack?

There's really no excuse for leaving your poo bags dumped on the floor -_-

Laziness as you can see from these answers - don't want to carry their own dogs poo but think it's okay to leave it dumped for other people to smell!

Wolfiefan · 06/05/2025 20:46

@Balloonhearts I use a healthy back bag. Could carry a child. Hands free.

Get a backpack designed for the job.

Flossflower · 06/05/2025 22:03

Gosh there are some selfish people on this thread. They have no problem in spoiling the environment first other walkers because they can’t be bothered to carry a dog poo bag. Littering is illegal and not a great example to set to a child.

You can buy plastic clip things that clip onto the dog lead that you hang the bagged poo off. So hands free and no risk of small children messing with it

There is absolutely no reason to leave bags of poo lying around. Even though its bagged and you intend to pick it up, it still ruins a lovely area seeing bags of dog poo on the side of the path, behind bushes and the worst one... hanging off trees.

Tooty78 · 06/05/2025 22:09

We do a daily walk around the fields in our village, the amount of piles of dog poo is unbelievable, the owners aren't even bagging it up, just leaving it in the middle of the paths. Dirty bastards.

PawsAndTails · 06/05/2025 22:13

Flossflower · 06/05/2025 12:44

It is not for you to judge whether other people will see it. Just take it with you

Do you regularly go digging around behind the backs of trees off path at trailheads in remote areas? I'll do what I want in sensible locations where it doesn't impact anyone, since no-one goes there (which is why I do).

You really don’t care about other people.

Yes, just another goady post knowing the dog is the devil according to MN with the amount of dog bashing threads. The same posters will post the same dramatic comments 🥱 followed ..by well if there weren't so many problems with dogs, there wouldn't be so many threads. Double 🥱 🥱.

Well maybe some of the obnoxious types that think it is fine to inflict dog and it’s poo on others with zero consideration will start to understand how anti social they are being.

Why do you think it’s fine for some (not all - there are some very considerate dog owners who I applaud) dog owners to be obnoxious but then moan at anyone who complains?

pincklop · 07/05/2025 01:39

@Balloonhearts just leave the crap for other kids to potentially touch or think they can ruin their environment. Teach them to pick it up and put it in a bag so everyone can enjoy nature. Can you imagine if someone in front of you was chucking crisp packets, nappies, drinks bottles on the floor. Because they didn’t want to carry it but they will get it on the way back. It’s disgusting.

Zanatdy · 07/05/2025 06:17

Sometimes if at the start of a walk where I know there are no bins, if my dog does a walk, i’ll leave it off the path and collect on my way back. I always remember to collect it. Maybe others do that, and don’t return for it.

Talltreesbythelake · 07/05/2025 06:36

It is a filthy thing to do. I collect and bin so many of these bags of poo that have obviously been forgotten. No one believes that you "always" remember. Take your poo with you!

JH0404 · 07/05/2025 06:46

Disgusting people who do this! Carry it, plan your route where there are plenty of bins if you’re that bothered- or don’t have a dog.
