To ask if anyone else feels nauseous after eating eggs?

Just that really… Every time I eat scrambled eggs or omelette, I feel sort of travel sick: really queasy (but not an upset stomach) with a slight hangovery headache. It feels a bit like early pregnancy nausea; like I’m not going to be sick but I feel terrible. I was telling my husband before and he looked at me like I was mad, and I’d made us a lovely omelette for lunch (chorizo, peppers, chillies and cheddar) but couldn’t finish it because the nausea had started, and now I feel dreadful! I think I’m past the worst as I’ve started feeling hungry again but does anyone else get this?? What is it?! 🤣

No...maybe you have an intolerance?

terracelane23 · 05/05/2025 17:27

They don’t rest nicely on me either. I don’t feel sick as such, just a bit unsettled.

Zippidydoodah · 05/05/2025 17:28

No, but clearly you do, so why are you still eating eggs? It could be an intolerance or they just don’t sit well in your tummy. Funnily enough, I’m a bit like this with chorizo. I haven’t eaten it for years as it made me feel sick.

HumaneMouseTrap · 05/05/2025 17:28

Yes but only after certain eggs. Omelettes make me feel sick about an hour later but poached or fried eggs are fine. No idea why.

TheFunHare · 05/05/2025 17:29

Yes. I always assumed it was too much protein. Quail eggs are the worst for some reason.

Dreamerinme · 05/05/2025 17:30

I’ve started feeling like this after I’ve eaten salmon fillet, and it also feels like my stomach is bubbling away to itself just been the sickness and nausea start. The last time I ate it a few days ago I also had horrendous diarrhoea about an hour afterwards so I’m assuming I am possibly developing an intolerance to it. So, this could be with eggs for you as you can develop an intolerance or allergy at any time in your life.

Ashipcalleddignity · 05/05/2025 17:31

Yep that's me. Funny enough I'm absolutely fine with poached eggs ! Maybe it's when you add anything to the egg while cooking, even oil for a fried egg?

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 05/05/2025 17:32

I've got a mild egg intolerance. I can eat a bit if they are in something else but not a main ingredient.
I can't eat just an actual egg or I get stomach pains and feel like shite.

I'm the same with dairy, I can have a set amount a day but if I go over that with an ice cream or milkshake or something then I feel sick and sore stomach and sulphur burps.

It does sound like you may have an intolerance

Yes - however if I drink plenty of water it either doesn’t happen or stops quickly. Weird - always assumed it is a mild allergy? It’s at its worst with omelettes.

Could it be another ingredient with the eggs? Butter, being dairy, springs to mind.

stilll · 05/05/2025 17:33

I’m the same with omelettes - love eggs but omelettes always make me feel super sick about 30 mins after eating. Weird

Iceache · 05/05/2025 17:33

I’m assuming it could be an intolerance too; I don’t honestly eat them very often as I don’t really like them in most forms, so if I make dippy or fried eggs, I’ll only eat the yolk. I always assumed it was too much protein, but I don’t feel this way after a protein smoothie or a steak, for example. I was saying to my husband before that perhaps it’s the lack of carbs in the meal, but my regular lunch is Greek yoghurt, berries and seeds, and I don’t feel sick after that.

I certainly won’t be eating an omelette again in a hurry!

pizzaHeart · 05/05/2025 17:33

I can’t say I feel sick but I certainly get indigestion. I’m ok with cakes and other things containing eggs as an ingredient but scrambled eggs, omelettes etc doesn’t sit right with me.
it’s a pity because it’s such an easy and nutritious food.

DoraChance · 05/05/2025 17:34

I get this - fried or poached no problem but scrambled makes me feel really nauseous. Strange!

BarneyRonson · 05/05/2025 17:34

I had a phase of eating eggs for breakfast daily, and I developed an allergy to them! I was a bit amazed: broke out in a rash. Clearly they are one of the potential allergens. They are quite an intense food.

gillybombilly · 05/05/2025 17:35

Yes, me too.
I need to drink lots of hot tea to try and help with the sickly after taste, so have given them up now, unfortunately.

Iceache · 05/05/2025 17:36

Funny you should mention indigestion @pizzaHeart because it feels exactly like my extreme pregnancy nausea that my doctor prescribed emeprezole for: turned out I had awful indigestion but my only symptom was nausea and the occasional sort of repeating hiccup?

It isn’t other foods like butter because I can eat pretty much anything except omelette eggs and scrambled eggs and feel fine!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/05/2025 17:43

Yes, I get this. I do like scrambled eggs and omelette but don’t eat often as I often feel a bit ‘off’ afterwards.

ThePoshUns · 05/05/2025 17:52

Only if I eat eggs that are ‘ broken’ ie omelette or scrambled, if kept whole l’m fine.

mummymeister · 05/05/2025 17:53

eggs make my psoriasis much worse so I try to avoid them as eggs. the smell of them makes me gag. I suspect thats why.

Abra1t · 05/05/2025 17:55

I feel like this sometimes with scrambled eggs or omelette. I thought it was just me!

Withinthewhirlwind · 05/05/2025 17:55

It is a thing! The protein in the egg changes in different ways if it is cooked slowly or quickly, you can be perfectly fine with boiled, fried & poached eggs but suffer with all the slow cooked types. I assume it’s an intolerance of sorts. Mine has definitely got worse with age as well, poached eggs are starting to affect me now.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 05/05/2025 17:56

HumaneMouseTrap · 05/05/2025 17:28

Yes but only after certain eggs. Omelettes make me feel sick about an hour later but poached or fried eggs are fine. No idea why.

I'm the same. Scrambled eggs are slightly more tolerable than omelettes for me but I need eggs to be fried or boiled really.

shivbo2014 · 05/05/2025 17:56

My nan used to feel like that she said she was allergic to them
