To ask if anyone else feels nauseous after eating eggs?

Just that really… Every time I eat scrambled eggs or omelette, I feel sort of travel sick: really queasy (but not an upset stomach) with a slight hangovery headache. It feels a bit like early pregnancy nausea; like I’m not going to be sick but I feel terrible. I was telling my husband before and he looked at me like I was mad, and I’d made us a lovely omelette for lunch (chorizo, peppers, chillies and cheddar) but couldn’t finish it because the nausea had started, and now I feel dreadful! I think I’m past the worst as I’ve started feeling hungry again but does anyone else get this?? What is it?! 🤣

I do.
Sometimes I really fancy an egg mayo sarnie and then I make a really nice once but regret eating it within a few minutes.
Scrambled eggs are the same

BikkieTime · 05/05/2025 17:59

I developed an intolerance to eggs (certainly the whites, not sure on the yolks) in my 20s, after happily eating them until that point.

I was having stomach pains at the time, now it's more like bad indigestion if I accidentally eat some/too much (I can eat some well cooked e.g. baked into a cake).

I also developed intolerance to certain seafoods at the same time.

It can happen if you have had e.g. a nasty virus and you've been eating the food around that time . Basically your immune system goes bonkers.

ppaaWWss · 05/05/2025 17:59

I believe that an egg intolerance is more often specifically egg white, and if they are thoroughly cooked (as in boiled, poached or in a cake) then the protein changes so is less problematic, lightly cooked egg whites as in scrambled eggs or omelettes are most likely to cause symptoms. All of which tracks with your experience.

I'm not an expert, but both my kids had egg intolerances so I read up on it at the time.

Murfmeister · 05/05/2025 17:59

I definitely do, so I've had to stop eating them. Used to bloody love fried eggs on toast too 😭

stilll · 05/05/2025 18:00

This is fascinating to me as I’d always assumed I was weird. I’m funny with scrambled eggs too but feel like I can eat them for a while and then it almost builds up and gets worse if I eat them over a few days. Omelettes can make me feel so sick it puts me off eggs for weeks/ months until I think it must’ve just been me being weird, start eating them again and the whole process starts over

CherryRipe1 · 05/05/2025 18:01

Yes, I wondered why I kept getting nauseous, sulphur burps and headaches after eating eggs, especially non organic ones. Found out I have an egg yolk sensitivity which is quite a common one .

Wildywondrous · 05/05/2025 18:03

Me too, I love the taste of a boiled egg sandwich but feel so sick afterwards.
I'm fine with them hard boiled or in omelette. I do cook them thoroughly though and make sure there's no slimy looking bits left

Fried egg sarnie with HP sauce..omg. Bloody love!

Could it be an egg allergy OP, rather than an intolerance?

Allergies can occur very quickly after eating something which sounds like it’s the case here. With egg allergies the reaction can be dependent on how well cooked the egg is - so sometimes cakes are ok, omelettes worse, mousses or anything with raw egg worse again.

Nausea and vomiting can
be symptoms of allergy. Do you get any blotchiness or rashes at the same time ?

It’s just a possibility though.

Sunnyout · 05/05/2025 18:10

Just to add that the most common allergen is in the egg white so maybe that’s why you’re ok with yolks?

SmallGreenBabies · 05/05/2025 18:11

I do! Especially omelettes. And salmon filets as mentioned by someone else. But smoked salmon is fine. How interesting! I'd really like to know why!

ninjahamster · 05/05/2025 18:11

Yes I do, and from mayonnaise. But I still eat them cos I love them!

Ok so since this afternoon I’ve done somewhat of a deep dive into my egg eating experiences 🤣 :

Omelettes - awful nausea (no pain)
Scrambled eggs with toast (feel a bit sick but easily ignored)
Scrambled eggs without toast - very sick
fried egg bagel (one egg, cheese slice, ketchup) - fine (maybe a bit off or overly full but nothing dreadful
Dippy eggs - fine, but I only eat the yolk
Soft boiled eggs on toast - bit sick but passes quickly
Egg mayo sandwich - fine, but this is combined with cheap white bread (a must) and large quantities of crisps. I’m beginning to think no carbs is a terrible idea…

I’m thinking it’s either the combination of white, yolk + quantity (ie in a bagel or sandwich it’ll only be one egg), or the lack of carbs to settle my stomach!

Also no rash or any other symptoms, and I don’t suffer with indigestion or heartburn ever

Worldtravels · 05/05/2025 18:31

Yes I get an upset stomach after eating omelettes. Always cooked through fully but I get diarrhoea after. I also get the dizzy nausea. I’ve always had it and still don’t understand why. I can eat fried eggs as much as I want, other dishes with eggs are fine, like cake. I’ve never tried scrambled though.

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 05/05/2025 18:33

Yes, for a while I've had faint nausea. It's really annoying as eggs are such an easy meal!

Iceache · 05/05/2025 18:34

I also get a weird sort of internal itchy feeling in my chest - kind of like a restlessness or breathless feeling but I can breathe fine. I only get it when I eat eggs. I thought it was a weird quirk because I don’t really like them, but I actually do like them. I can’t explain it really

Crikeyalmighty · 05/05/2025 18:36

My H cannot abide anything involving ‘obvious’ eggs - be that eggs cooked however, eggy pasta, custard , quiche etc - me? I could live on all these things-

Amethystanddiamonds · 05/05/2025 18:36

I've experimented with this as I love omelettes but they also make me feel queasy. No other eggs do. I need them to 'dry' not greasy and to eat them with a carb and then I'm fine. So omelette with loads of cheese makes me sicky. Omelette with a smattering of cheese and some veg with a slice of toast on the side. All good!

Almostwelsh · 05/05/2025 18:40

I'm fine with eggs on their own but I cannot eat them with cheese. So a cheese omelette is a no-go. Makes me very queasy.

I can eat cheese on its own and eggs on their own, but not together.

Assssofspades · 05/05/2025 18:43

terracelane23 · 05/05/2025 17:27

They don’t rest nicely on me either. I don’t feel sick as such, just a bit unsettled.

Exactly this, but with poached or boiled eggs I'm fine!

Picklepower · 05/05/2025 18:44

Yes, quite mildly nauseous for a bit. Particularly omelettes. Boiled eggs I'm ok

ShapedLikeAPastry · 05/05/2025 18:46

stilll · 05/05/2025 17:33

I’m the same with omelettes - love eggs but omelettes always make me feel super sick about 30 mins after eating. Weird

Yep, me too. I can eat eggs in any form except in an omelette. It makes me gag after the first few bites. Really odd!

Whyjustwhy83 · 05/05/2025 18:50

Yes but only if I eat to many, no more then 2 I'm fine but not duck eggs I find even one too much.
