Help me with brunch menu

Hosting mine and my boyfriend’s family - they are meeting for first time.

We have decided to do a brunch as it suits everyone’s schedules. We have one veggie coming and their partner tends to eat veggie but can eat meat.

The menu:

  • Quiche x2 (one veggie, one non-veggie)
  • Breakfast potatoes (dad’s absolute fav)
  • Sausages (veg and non veg)
  • Bacon
  • Dressed avocado
  • Fruit salad
  • Muffins (sis will bake a selection)
  • Pastries (will buy a frozen bag)
  • Coffee
  • Bucks Fizz
  • OJ

Im thinking one fresher element may be nice but I think a salad doesn’t quite hit the mark.

Any feedback would be great!

I have chosen the above as I can do a lot of the prep well beforehand and just leave bf to not burn sausages/bacon

What about smoked salmon with cream cheese and a little salad (red onion, cornichons, etc). You could always add bagels to the pastry selection. Again preps easy ahead of time but looks great on the plate too

BrieAndChilli · 05/05/2025 15:59

Grilled tomatos - you dont love them but would everyone else?

Strata, which is a savoury bread and butter pudding, can be made the night before and then put in the oven. Nigella has a recipe. It's lovely with sausages. Nigella also suggests Espresso Martini.

Asparagus could be good.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/05/2025 16:03

Greek yogurt with berries

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 05/05/2025 16:03

Tomato, mozzarella and basil salad?

I was thinking that! Adore it

Smoked salmon kedgeree.
Devilled eggs for the veggie (but do plenty- they are lovely).

AlwaysFreezing · 05/05/2025 16:03

My mil cuts the crusts off sliced brown bread, rolls the bread flat. Butters it and wraps the cooked asparagus in the bread. Delicious!

EasterBunnyFeelingFunny · 05/05/2025 16:03

A freshly made coleslaw or remoulade would go really well and gives you the freshness of a salad.

Tea, obviously.

Rather than a quiche I’d go for fritatta.

I have had a little snigger at “tomato forward food”. I have never felt older 😂

beetr00 · 05/05/2025 16:07

@Westuh agree with @Chewygummy

"Go out to a really nice local brunch place then back to your for coffee in the garden"

Families meeting first time and you and your bf will be running around hosting, leaving "strangers" to engage in small talk.

Unless ofc both families are massively gregarious (unlike myself) 😆

p.s. the menu sounds delicious (wouldn't bother with veggie sausages though, they're generally vile)

I was going to say that about the veggie sausages . I'd do continental sliced cheeses myself, but then I love cheese with everything anyway.

Is it not allowed to cook with someone unless you live together? Hmm

Darkambergingerlily · 05/05/2025 16:17

I’d totally want eggs instead of quiche. But that’s just me. And maybe a smoothie

DeffoNeedANameChange · 05/05/2025 16:17

I get that you can make a quiche in advance, but it's out of place for me. Either scrambled eggs/omelettes for brunch, or quiche and salad for an early lunch.

I would also do some grilled tomatoes and mushrooms.

Just fyi - cooking brunch for that many people is a bit of a ball ache because of all the different components. I would just make your peace that some bits might not be as hot as you'd like etc, or eggs might be a bit overdone etc. I always think a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere is worth a lot more than a perfect poached egg.

LittleBitofBread · 05/05/2025 16:18

You said you don't love tomatoes, but if your guests do, then how about some baked tomatoes with anchovies? Baked tomatoes, cut in half horizontally, and a baking dish. Drizzle with oil, black pepper and salt and lay a few strips of anchovies across the top. Bake for about half an hour to 40 minutes.
