Dirty phone call

PerkyOchrePeer · 04/05/2025 23:14

I had a dirty phone call this evening to my mobile and it was from private number I was going to report it but there's no point because you can't trace it because he was a private number he was whispering. I did speak back and said who is this and he just repeated his obscenities to me then I hang up and he phoned back didn't speak I hung up he tried again didn't speak I hang up and I haven't heard from him since

My mobile phone provider just said to me we can block private numbers but then it would block all private numbers and some of them would be genuine so they said to me if the person calls more than one's then report it to the police and they can do something about it but I don't think they can

Police can trace it. I am a police officer and we do this regularly.

So you've spoken to your phone provider who have told you to report it to the Police.

Why wouldn't you follow this advice?

They might not be able to trace him this time but it builds a records. There was a case a while ago where all the previous reports helped build a case, think it was a journalist who pursued the Police to take action.

If they investigate or not is on them. Whether you report or not is your decision and won't take long.

doneandone · 05/05/2025 11:12

Report it to the police. This happened to dd, someone kept on making them to her and they traced who it was. Just waiting to see if it'll go to court or not.

I am sitting here laughing at the thought of a dirty phone caller leaving a voicemail message because nobody picks up his calls. 'I called today to ask about your tits, but I think you were out. Please call me back on this number and have the colour of your underwear and bra size ready.'

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 05/05/2025 11:20

😂 @Vroomfondleswaistcoat

Now I’m thinking of a postman’s “we were here; you were out” card for a flasher

AcquadiP · 05/05/2025 11:22

I'd be tempted to take the piss.

I'd turn the call volume down to zero so I couldn't hear what they were saying and then say something like:

"I'm so sorry I can't make out what you're saying. We've such a poor signal in our area. Let me just move to a different spot"..(30 seconds)........................................

"Thanks for waiting. Sorry what was it you were saying? Oh dear, the postman/my neighbour's at the door with a parcel. You don't mind waiting a moment, do you? ..........."

I'd then leave them hanging whilst I went to the loo or made a cup of coffee.

If they were still on the line when I got back, I'd just hang up!

Charlize43 · 05/05/2025 11:23

If you've got the number, please post it on Who Called Me as it will inform others.

I had a dirty caller in my twenties after moving into a new flat. He used to call up and make obscene suggestions to me and I'd do everything to contradict them and deflate them: 'I'm really flat chested, like a 14 year old boy really... and I've got these quite big hairy nipples... the size of digestive biscuits, stale biscuits that have mould hairs growing out and I'm also covered in blue veins... and I've got a smattering of warts... Oh, I'd love that... but I'm oozing pus at the moment. Bright green pus... it's dripping all over the place...'

Eventually he hung up. I think I out grossed him!

I did as a young teenager (12, 13) make childish crank calls. I blame my Convent School education. We used to go the a public phone box and ring 100 for the Operator:

Is that the Operator?
Yes.
Are you on the line?
Yes.
Well you'd better get off because there is a train coming along!

😂So childish! It was the 70s.

Report. If a situation escalates then a track record will be of benefit.

Because as has already been pointed out, many legitimate companies and organisations call from withheld numbers. I have never understood this paranoia about withheld or unknown numbers- when we had landlines where we would answer without hesitation, not having any clue who was on the other end.

That’s like saying we all happily lit a candle before electric light. We didn’t have a choice.

Legitimate organisations will leave a voicemail, try again, send a text… or not use withheld numbers at all.

Maybe where you live, but certainly not here.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/05/2025 12:39

I've had two calls from 'Private number' in the last week and they were both legit, one from the Metropolitan Police and one from the NHS.

WinterMorn · 05/05/2025 12:50

@IndigoViolent I don’t understand why that’s funny?

HaveCreditWillShop · 05/05/2025 13:00

ItGhoul · 05/05/2025 10:25

You’re being ridiculous. Nobody is going to have a heart attack over a dirty phone call. Women in their 80s will almost certainly have had them on landlines when they were younger. They’re not Victorians.

Nobody wants to answer the phone to a heavy breathing pervert, and I’m sorry you had that experience, but let’s not get melodramatic.

My mother in law is in her 80’s, she’s laughed at a flasher before so god only knows what she’d do to a phone pervert!

Wingedharpy · 05/05/2025 13:03

DrummingMousWife · 05/05/2025 10:44

We used to get this on our land line years ago. It’s stopped when I started saying “it’s your bill arsehole” , and putting the phone receiver on the side to keep the charge running.

I had a friend who used to say " just let me get a pen and paper dear so I can write this down - my memory's terrible these days" - then wanders off for 45 minutes to get on with her day.

IndigoViolent · 05/05/2025 13:18

WinterMorn · 05/05/2025 12:50

@IndigoViolent I don’t understand why that’s funny?

Don’t you?

WinterMorn · 05/05/2025 13:22

Nope

shejokes11 · 05/05/2025 13:46

Use unmasked app

Damnloginpopup · 05/05/2025 15:25

The trouble, as I see it, is that if you don't answer it plays right into their hands in that they might think that you are in the shower...naked...lathering yourself up...

Yeah I know 😁 couldn't help myself!

Communitywebbing · 05/05/2025 19:31

I had an obscene call once on my very poor quality landline in the middle of the night. I kept dozily saying Sorry, what was that… you want to do what.. ? By the time I realised properly what was going on, he was disheartened and rang off.

I now actively want perverts to call me so I can try this 😆😆😆😆😆

I’m going back maybe 30 years but I once answered the house phone when my parents were at the bottom of the garden. The man asked to speak to my dad but I told him my dad was down the garden. He then said some outlandish stuff, which did make it sound like he had met me, things a 12 year old didn’t really understand, and when my parents came up to the house he’d either called back with his number blocked, or he’d blocked it in the first place. It was right around the time 141 and 1471 came in. My dad was incandescent with rage for some time, and never did work out who it was. There’s some sick puppies out there.

shejokes11 · 04/08/2025 16:49

Download unmask no caller id and wait till they call you get a text w their number even though it’s private x

My mother in law is in her 80’s, she’s laughed at a flasher before so god only knows what she’d do to a phone pervert!

My late mother in law got a dirty phone call, sounded like a teenager, said “ guess what my girlfriend is doing to me right now?” MIL said “well if you’re able to make a phone call she can’t be very good” and hung up.
