I don’t think I have ever felt the need to start a thread, but the picture of Trump as Pope i just saw on SkyNews is so absolutely incredibly offensive that i just can’t stop myself.

AIBU?!

It's not the behaviour of a rational human being is it?

Absolutely. This is not rational behaviour.

Why would you even have this thought, far less entertaining it and posting for all the world to see?

Trump will go down in history but for all the wrong reasons.

100PercentFaithful · 03/05/2025 21:42

It’s bizarre but no more than I would expect from him.
Trump has no religion or belief in God. He didn’t touch the Bible as he was sworn in.
I prefer to think of him as The Dope…

TheFrendo · 03/05/2025 21:21

I thought it was pretty funny - as it was meant to be.

Seriously? That's what you get from this.
Every day I'm amazed on here by what people think.

Whippetlovely · 03/05/2025 21:51

My partners catholic ( as are my kids) he found it amusing. He's just trump being trump. There are loads of these memes going round. I think a lot of catholics are very conservative and may find it offensive but to be honest I think they need to lighten up. I don't think Trumps even Christian, he pretends to be when it suits as a lot of his voters are.

ACynicalDad · 03/05/2025 21:53

I think the world would be better without religion, there’s enough he’s bad about that truly matters that means I can’t worry about this one.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 03/05/2025 21:53

I’m Catholic, and very slow to take offence, plus uber liberal (yes, I know 🤣), but this genuinely made me feel nauseous.

UName38 · 03/05/2025 21:54

I am a Catholic but find it more bizarre than anything. It’s just a sort of weary what next for the orange one.

I’m offended and horrified by the treatment of migrants, ignoring court orders. Angry about the DOGE stuff affecting poor Americans health and sudden cut to US aid. I’m angry that I don’t feel I can risk travelling to see American relatives because I may be stopped at the border.

(I’m equally upset on UK cut to aid and some of our government policy.)

neitherleftnorright · 03/05/2025 21:29

How about the one he signed off this week introducing martial law as soon as possible? Not reported by mainstream media by the way. If I was in the US I would be VERY scared right now.

What? Can we have some more info on this please?

LillyPJ · 03/05/2025 20:20

He's so ignorant. Vile man. I'm not religious at all but I think it's really offensive.

*this

It’s not funny. Stop enabling and excusing it.

How could it have been meant to be funny? Trump doesn't have any sense of humour at all!

MagentaRocks · 03/05/2025 22:05

I'm an atheist but I think it's offensive. I might not believe in God but I respect people's right to and understand for a lot of people their religion is extremely important.

We shouldn't be surprised though. I find everything about him offensive. His manu crimes, his narcissistic personality. He is vile.

Zoopet · 03/05/2025 22:08

Just be thankful that he doesn't think he's the Emperor with new (no) clothes...🤮

I’m Catholic and although I found it frankly nauseating I know objectively it’s his ‘right’ to do it - I’ve never been in favour of blasphemy type restrictions, so although I disagree with that poster, they can find it funny if they want to as is their right

TheFrendo · 03/05/2025 21:21

I thought it was pretty funny - as it was meant to be.

Would you have thought it was funny if it was Biden or Obama?

Biden was pillioried and accused of dementia for every wobble and forgotten word. Trump acts in a far more deranged way and his supporters just think it's funny.

cakeorwine · 03/05/2025 22:14

So he's not signed off martial law if you read that article.

blueshedhermit · 03/05/2025 22:15

I'm a Catholic and I'm not all hurty about it, but the real question is why on earth he would do this just before the papal conclave begins on 7 May. But then again, he and other world leaders are clearly unsettled at the thought of Cardinal Sarah being considered papabile.

StandFirm · 03/05/2025 22:19

cakeorwine · 03/05/2025 22:14

So he's not signed off martial law if you read that article.

No but it's a clear overreach and very slippery slope

thedancingclown · 03/05/2025 22:22

The man is an egotistical oaf.

He has also decided America won WWII by itself and Verterans Day (VE) is now Victory Day.

SouthJersey · 03/05/2025 22:23

The thing is, Trump himself posted it and it was also on the White House site. He surrounds himself with ignorant people who want power at any cost. I don't think he has the mental capacity to comprehend how terrible this image is.

Regarding the Executive Order about martial law, I'm in the US and I am worried. It was signed on April 28th and is called 'Strengthening and Unleashing America's Law Enforcement to pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens'. Yeah, right.

"My Administration will work to ensure that law enforcement officers across America focus on ending crime, not pursuing harmful, illegal race- and sex-based “equity” policies.
The result will be a law-abiding society in which tenacious law enforcement officers protect the innocent, violations of law are not tolerated, and American communities are safely enjoyed by all their citizens again."

Section 4 says that with 90 days "the Attorney general and Sec of Defense, ...Sec of Homeland Security...shall increase the provision of excess military and national security assets in local jurisdictions to assist State and local law enforcement."

He focuses on punishing DEI initiatives as a priority in there, too. I don't feel that I will be safely enjoying my community if the military are ready to stomp in.

VickyEadieofThigh · 03/05/2025 22:24

AquaPeer · 03/05/2025 20:21

Totally. I don’t think it’s massively offensive- people pretending to be the pope isn’t offensive to catholics the way say, drawing prophets is to Muslims- but it’s still crass and well, quite cringy really.

If the Pope hadn't died very recently I might agree. But he did and this is extraordinary in its tastelessness.

Moonmelodies · 03/05/2025 22:41

Why not simply forgive him?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/05/2025 22:45

It’s almost too ludicrous to properly react to. I think that’s how the expect to get away with it - because people will react with humour when in fact it’s very seriously disrespectful and shows how unfit he is to hold high office.

PersonalBest · 03/05/2025 22:51

nocoolnamesleft · 03/05/2025 20:18

It is totally crass of him. But, honestly, compared to his actual crimes it seems like relatively small beer.
