Apparently the USA did "more than any other country" and nobody was close in terms of strength, bravery or military brilliance - so he wants to celebrate victories.

If he wanted to upset Russia, this is how to do it.

It's also going to upset other countries who suffered massively in WW2 and also fought alongside the USA to defeat the Nazis and also the Japanese

The 8th May has been marked as VE Day since before Trump was born. VE stands for Victory in Europe. As for the First World War, the idea that some Yank who refused to serve in the military, will command people around the world not to call it Rembrance...

Has anybody told him that the VE stands for Victory in Europe Day and VJ Victory in Japan after the US dropped the bomb on Hiroshima ? The V stands for Victory , not Veterans where those wars actually took place not who fought ! And since those wars cause a bit of a mess the UD Marshall plan funded the repairs ( actually let’s keep that big quiet- he will want his money back ……)

Gimpee · 02/05/2025 22:15

NPET · 02/05/2025 22:20

He's too thick to know this but May 8th wasn't victory in WW II, that didn't happen until August when the war in the Far East ended, I wonder of there will be any events to commemorate that?

cakeorwine · 03/05/2025 06:57

Veteran's Day is supposed to remember ALL veterans of US conflicts - of which there are many.

By renaming it as Victory in WW1 day, he is going to upset a lot of the military.

Fuck off you cataclysmic orange cunt!

Precisely.

cakeorwine · 03/05/2025 07:09

So if I had a question to his Press Secretary it would be:

1)Trump wants to call May 8th Victory in WW2 day. But WW2 ended in September after much heavy fighting against Japan. So why is he calling May 8th Victory in WW2 day

And a follow up

  1. Veteran's Day commemorates all veterans of US conflicts including Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. What message does it send to military veterans of those conflicts by renaming it Victory in WW1 Day?

As a few have mention he's very confused - it's when the war in Europe finished, not just European countries. The Americans were there- they contributed to victory in Europe... it's as much their celebration as ours or any other European country.

I guess at least it shows he does his own social media, anyone else would have picked this up in a moment.

To be honest, I'm marginally worried that other people might also be somewhat confused about this?

CanYouTurnItDown · 03/05/2025 07:17

He can call it what he wants, my son used to call elbows sheepballs everyone else just laughed at him.

Newbutoldfather · 03/05/2025 07:18

VE is victory in Europe, it is not saying that Europeans won it alone, as many have pointed out.

His terms are also incorrect and clumsy. But at 11PM at night, after gorging on Maccy D’s and watching wall to wall screens, what else is the leader of the free world going to do?!

Can we hereby rename Trump as Sheepballs?

BruceAndNosh · 03/05/2025 07:27

This latest stunt from Trump proves that there is NO-ONE in his administration who has the balls to dare to give him the tiniest bit of advice.

itsnotabouthepasta · 03/05/2025 07:31

He’s also tweeted a picture of himself dressed as the pope.

seriously what is wrong with this man?

thepariscrimefiles · 03/05/2025 07:37

I have given up trying to work out how many personality disorders he has. He is completely deluded and ignorant, but as he is surrounded by craven sycophants, his lies will never be challenged. His cabinet meetings rival those in North Korea with the compulsory obsequious fawning from every member of his cabinet.

As someone who dodged the draft due to bone spurs, I have no idea how he has the chutzpah to opine on military matters, referring to members of the military who died in combat as 'losers'. He can fuck right off.

The Chinese deaths are a bit misleading as they were fighting a long drawn out civil war at the same time. Otherwise I agree. It's ridiculous and as others have pointed out WWII didn't end until victory over Japan. I wonder if he really said this as it is too daft a comment.

Who cares what the President of the FSA wants to call things?

(Are they officially called "the Fucking State of America" now? Hard to keep up)

I was imagining FSA was Fuckwit’s States of America till I read your second sentence🤣🤣.

How long till he wants to call it Trumperica?

Comtesse · 03/05/2025 07:47

Remember this? Wouldn’t go to WW1 cemetery because it was raining.

Tbf to him, and I don't often bother to be, if he's only read ww2 from the US perspective then he probably thinks the US did it all.

Ds was very interested in ww2, and got through a lot of books on the subject. You could pick up very quickly which were books aimed at the American market. Along the lines of "50 famous people during ww2" would consist of 48 Americans, 45 names never heard of before and biography had nothing spectacular, Churchill and perhaps one other.

And also America got rich of the back of it, and he cares about money more than anything except himself, so in that ways it was a great victory for America.

RampantIvy · 03/05/2025 08:27

Without the Brits (I'm Irish) repelling the Nazis when the Brits were on their own in doing so in 1940 the war would have been over there and then.

Please could someone explain this to me.

Are we saying that if we hadn't entered the war it wouldn't have been over, with Germany occupying several Europen countries instead? What would have stopped them trying to do the same to Britain?

minnienono · 03/05/2025 08:38

the rest of us know that the Americans turned up late to both ww1 &2, ww2 they saw as a business opportunity at first selling us what we needed! Yes they did join (only after they were attacked) but even then on the European front they sat around in southern England for quite a while. I’m not going to take away the bravery of American individuals they were part of the push to take back Europe from the nazis but the writing was on the wall already thanks to the outstanding bravery of Europeans, special mention to soe and the French resistance!

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 03/05/2025 08:40

As others have said lots of countries helped defeat germany

i dont know of any other countries leader (maybe russia under putin) who blather on about how they did the most

(i was going to say countries but then i thought that wasnt fair on the vast amount of Americans but then i remember an interview years ago when a British reporter asked Americans on the street about world war 2 and one of them aked ‘was britain in the war?)

cakeorwine · 02/05/2025 20:56

I hate to imagine what life was like in the Soviet Army in WW2.

Life was cheap

"Was"? It still is. Putin has no care for the lives of his men, he just sends them into the meat grinder, often scrambling over the corpses of the last wave.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 03/05/2025 08:40

He's a complete numpty idiot. We can continue to call VE day VE day. He'll be on some other nonsense by tomorrow

Indeed. The naming of things is a useful distraction from his failure to achieve the ludicrous promises he made that got him elected - it keeps the faithful cheering along.
