Is it safe to order if I can get an order to go through?

Am I “just” looking at a long indeterminate delay? Or could I lose money and have to chase for a refund?

Is it safe to order with my credit card? Should I use PayPal? Credit card via PayPal?

Should I be deleting all my saved payment details from the site/app?

Was told in the cafe yesterday that Sparks was up and running. I had already missed 3 going on my card for drinks. So scanned it yesterday but on checking it hasn't updated. Also noticed in the food hall some large gaps on the shelves. Signs saying I'll be back soon. Had a list of items for an elderly relative and 4 out of the seven weren't available. Also has anyone noticed that it's nearly impossible to buy their cooked chicken. Some appear sporadically on the shelves and this was before the cyber attack.

They seem to have changed the supplier for their cooked chicken. The packaging and range has definitely changed. I've not been able to get any skin on breasts for over a month, now. No idea. Whether this is just the supplier change or down to bird flu.

Really frustrated by the M and S situation. There have been so many lovely items online this season and I have a wish list as long as my arm. My local M and S has very limited clothing stock and I rarely find what I want without ordering it. Just before they stopped the online orders I had ordered some super duper face creams with a big Sparks discount and they cancelled my order. First world problems of course, but I am just hoping that when this is all sorted they have some great new Sparks offers and a bumper sale!!

CamillaMacauley · 03/05/2025 15:19

Apparently the coop hacking situation has got worse and drivers and warehouse staff have been sent home. I assume this means gaps in the shelves soon.

lets hope the hackers don’t hit the other supermarkets too or there will be a rerun of covid lockdown panic buying of loo roll and pasta!

Ha ha, you're probably right! 😂 But I do think we need to know that this is being dealt with and efforts are being made to hold people to account.

I have a lovely dress sat in my online basket .
It isn’t in store in my size and length so no choice but to wait .
i will wait ….

mamaison · 03/05/2025 17:52

I’m really desperate for some clothing for DC.

Urgently need loads of stuff for school trip in their biggest kids sizes. They don’t stock these sizes in any stores at all.

Have been out to the mall and getting desperate. Next is my only other option but I don’t find it as good.

I really rely on M&S clothes for my giant children. Adults clothing isn’t right for them on the bottom- and they don’t do school uniform in adult clothing!

I wonder how long this will last. It’s been two weeks I think!

I feel your pain. There is a very pretty dress that I have my eye on too. I wonder how much this has cost M&S in lost revenue? Especially after the hot spell when people might have been trying to get some summer bits?

I read somewhere that they usually make £3.8m a DAY online!
I ordered something last week before I knew what was going on, thankfully through paypal. They contacted me this week to cancel the order and said would refund. PayPal emailed today to say the refund has failed!
Luckily, it wasn't a lot of money, I've contacted M&S and I'm happy to wait for it back. I feel so sorry for them and the poor staff having to deal with all of this

Viviennemary · 03/05/2025 20:20

It's a bit annoying. I wanted a few new things. And now this. Grrr.

LuckyLerwick · 03/05/2025 20:25

I made a special trip to a big M&S store to return some orders, as you can't at food halls while this is going on. I managed to have the one paid for with my credit card refunded, but not the order paid for with PayPal.

I'm happy to wait a bit longer to try again next week (luckily still have time left to return) but it must be frustrating if you need the money back ASAP. I think there might have been some issues bubbling up just before the hack as well - I had wrong items and missing items from my orders.

Fingers crossed they get it all sorted soon - the staff were all lovely and as helpful as they could be, must be a nightmare for them.

Was in my local store this evening and they had only the cooked half chickens. Also my dh loves the gastro chicken leek and bacon pie which I also can't get. I do have some of the chicken breasts in my freezer but they won't last long.
Also tonight I saw the yellow stickers for the 1st time in 2 weeks though they had put a yellow sticker on soup costing £2.50 stating it was reduced to £2.75!!!

SnowFrogJelly · 04/05/2025 01:16

You can’t order online at the mo and I’m waiting for 2 refunds….

Sunnyevenings · 04/05/2025 01:28

They sent another email today basically saying thanks for being a customer and thanks for your continued patience. When I read it I assumed they must think it will be down for another while.

Changeyourlifes · 04/05/2025 01:55

Hmm on reflection I had issues with a M&S purchase recently and I emailed them completely unaware of this security incident. They said they would email me a gift card but I haven’t received it. I’m guessing that delay may be due to this security incident, I’m only just realising.

I hope M&S don’t lose much revenue from this. They’re one of the only few retailers that still offer great customer service.

DreamTheMoors · 04/05/2025 03:01

We used to have horrible neighbor kids, too. Their parents were awful awful as well, as you’d expect.
We called them “the demons.” I don’t remember their real name any more.
Happy to have them in my rear view mirror.

PickAChew · 04/05/2025 13:46

They were first compromised in February, apparently. We were unable to use a rewards voucher in March. Ended up having it credited to our credit card.

MidnightMeltdown · 04/05/2025 15:06

Poor M&S, it’s chaos atm. I did an online order a couple of days before this happened. I received half of it, and was waiting for the other half to arrive. Went online to find out where the rest of my order is, only to discover that the entire order has been cancelled and refunded. I now have more than £200 worth of stuff that I’ve not paid for and can’t return. Not really sure what to do with it.

AngelicKaty · 04/05/2025 20:58

@MidnightMeltdown Can't you just take it in to your nearest store?

No I don’t drive or live near a store. I only order online delivery from them.

Sesma · 04/05/2025 21:36

A lot of people haven't got a store near them now, I have one near me but they closed down 3 in towns 10-15 miles away. I went in Friday and the shelves were quite full. Fortunately I had some Sparks offers before this happened so bought some new summer trousers then, I have the long length which is rarely in store. I also managed to use a large discount for beauty stuff a day before it all happened, I had rushed to buy the beauty stuff because I was going away and picked it up Easter Saturday. I think it will be a while yet before we can order again

DollyTots · 04/05/2025 21:52

I made an order the day online orders were paused. It was cancelled and refunded but yesterday I was a victim of fraud. Bank account drained using my card details and only flagged when the money ran out. Likely a coincidence and bad luck but I’d be deleting those stored card details! Although I like M&S, I don’t feel safe to use them yet.

You probably want to keep the stuff though and just want to pay for it somehow, if you return it you will probably never get the items again as this could be ages before it's back to normal. Maybe when it gets back to normal you could ring them up, doing that now might just confuse things.

DS has grown out of his 15-16 size schools trousers and M&S seems to be one of the few places that do school uniform in sizes above that. Not to mention that most other shops seem to think we only need to buy uniform at the start of the school year!

I went into our local branch and stocks were prettty low as they have’s been able to restock since the systems went down and we can’t order online.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/05/2025 22:40

I bought some school uniform online on 26th April, and paid a wee bit extra for delivery to receive it the next day.
So far, so good.

I received a text, the day after, which said that the order had been delayed by 48 hours.
A few days after, I received an email from M&S, telling me that the order had been cancelled, and they were going to refund the money.

It’s not the end of the world, or anything, but it was mildly annoying.
