Hi all!

i posted about this the other day but there has been progress 🤣 I think with my hormones I’m so indecisive and my partner just wants to do whatever I do at this point.

im 34 weeks pregnant and this week we have found out that we have a rat infestation in our rented property. The pest control laid some bait and have come back today and found they have taken the bait in one location. They have mainly been in the frame of the house but have an access point into the house in our bathroom. The pest control man had advised me at face value he thinks once the building work has been repaired (the holes they’ve chewed in) then they shouldn’t come back. However there maybe an underlying issue or somewhere else they can get in that he can’t see. He said it’s upto the agency to do the building works now

Our agency/landlord has agreed to end the tenancy 9 months early on the basis of my pregnancy and a newborn being with us soon. Our house is lovely and I’m now worried Iv acted in to much of a haste?! However, if they do return then we will struggle to move as I will be on MAT leave. Also if we do move we will have to stay in my mothers tiny bedroom until we find a new place and have exspenses. We have found a place but cannot move in til 10 days before my due date.

can I get some advice on what you would all do in this bizarre situation?

xx

I would let pest control do their job and not move, especially not into a tiny bedroom at my mother's house.

I’m beginning to feel that way. I think my biggest worry is they will come back (as they tend to sometimes) and it’ll be a nightmare to move

it took us 8 months to get rid of rats. Pest control couldn’t work out how they were getting access and in the end it was DP who worked it out. We’d installed rat flaps / drain surveys etc.

How confident are you that the checks have fern carried out?

I'd leave. I wouldn't be able to relax with a newborn knowing there's a rat problem. It can take weeks and weeks to actually get rid of them.

If you've found a place but can't move until 10 days before your due date then I'd do it. Others may feel differently though.

It’s weird as the agency has sent the ā€˜rat man’ to come and have a look at where they’ve accessed. He’s found they’ve chewed a hole going into our spare room in the fascia and in another hole in the house. He’s laid bait and found today they’ve only taken it in one of the places. He said from face value he thinks problem will be fixed once the agency fixes the holes etc. but he can’t never be sure if there are other underlying issues xx

This is how I feel too, that I won’t relax. The issue isn’t majorly bad Iv probably heard them 6 times in last 3 months. But I did hear them really heavily once which freaked me out! It’s a shame as I love the house x
