Hi all,
Looking for advice , I have ordered a lot from next retail online and returned the items via self return portal in store
There was a few items I scanned in error and i was told by a woman in store if not in box they won't record as a return.
Now next have blocked my account, invetsigating me and said its due to refunds on items they haven't received that were scanned at self return.
They won't speak to me until invetsigation is over but I am worried sick that they might take legal action against me. They said its happened with a number of items but I dont have these items.
Anyone experienced this and know what happens next?
I never look at my account but I noticed the did refund me so im happy to pay for these items but as the girl told me in store it won't be recorded I didn't think much of it or even think to check my account. Also why would they record as received in store if they haven't?
What action will next take?

But what did you do with the items you scanned but didn't return? Where are they now?

Lolopolo · 02/05/2025 07:57

If she had the items delivered to the store and she tried them on there she may have had the ones she wanted to keep in her hands also and they got scanned too?

Sesma · 02/05/2025 07:57

Why would you never look at your account, is this because you are a tired mum

Daisiesandtulips · 02/05/2025 08:01

The way you are explaining it doesn’t really add up
op.

At the Next return you scan an item, then put it straight in the box.

If you accidentally scanned some wrong items but didn’t put them in the box, then where are they now?

Marianwallace · 02/05/2025 08:08

You scan an item and then put it in the box, scan another item and then put it the the box. How can you get mixed up?

Sorry but it’s irritating when some people late to a thread don’t bother reading original post properly. OP said she apparently self scanned a load of items in error and she acknowledges that and told a member of staff at the time supposedly but then in the same breath says she no longer even has the items so kind of a contradictory story. Yet now that Next has suspended her account and she’s under investigation she says she can see where they refunded her in error and she’s ’happy to pay for them.!’. Whole post just smacks of someone caught wondering what will happen to her.

I was returning a load of stuff. Some same items but different sizes and i scanned wrong items
Said to the girl in store and they said its ok as its not in basket we won't process it

Why did you take the items you were keeping with you when you returned the others?

We all make mistakes, they'll deal with a lot of fraud this way to have a decent idea of what's genuine, and what's not.

I did read the original post but it was a bit confusing! Sorry you are irritated 🙄 it’s not that deep ffs.

KitsyWitsy · 02/05/2025 08:23

You got caught being shady!

Or, you're not capable of using a self-scan machine without fucking it up. You know now and should always seek assistance.

I always use an assistant at the tills for my returns. Just feel like it's safer. I return lots of things so I am not fucking about with several hundred pounds worth of refunds.

TrinityClover · 02/05/2025 08:35

None of this makes sense. Why would you go back to the store with items you wanted to keep as well as the ones you didn’t? If it was just you collected everything in store, tried them on there and then and decided to return them how on earth did you manage to scan in the ones you wanted to keep. Surely you put those in a separate pile and don’t touch them? Where are the items you wanted to keep now?

Also how have Next refunded you when they haven’t received the items? When I return things to Next they don’t start to refund the money until they physically have the item?

And in answer to some other posters as to why a scammer would post on MN maybe so that someone can come up with a plausible story as to how this could have happened so Next don’t take legal action?

The real issue is shops cutting costs not having enough staff to do this and relying on customers using self service

Why? It’s not rocket science and human error can happen both to a customer and a staff member. The only difference is you can pin the blame on someone else and get outrageously angry and write to the CEO if it wasn’t you 😂

Wasn’t really difficult to understand the anomalies within it if you’d actually read it but whatever. And it’s not really the correct usage of ‘its not that deep’ but go off with your ffs attitude 🙄

This makes no sense. Why did you take the items you wanted to keep into the store with you?
If you scanned the incorrect item, why don’t you still have it?

Without clarity on what has happened it’s hard to say what NEXT will do next.
They clearly think you have fraudulently claimed a refund that you were not due.

Exactly!!! (I get grumpy about self service checkouts etc🤣)

None of us know what action Next will take but I strongly suggest you write a factual account of what happened as you might need it. The way you have accounted here is at best unclear.

Did you collect in store or were the parcel delivered to you?
If delivered to home why did you bring the things you wanted to keep with you to the store?
Did you try on the in store?
Where are the items you scanned but kept now? Did you give them away/sold them?
Was this all one transaction or was it multiple visits?

I would imagine your answers to these questions will probably impact on their decision.
