Stil not sure who I'm going to vote for
Most people I've talked to are voting tactically ,and not going with who they really want to vote for
I'm usually green ,so most probably will go with that
But be good to hear why people vote for who they do

Some of us aren’t able to vote because they’re planning to turn us into unitary authorities.

boys3 · 01/05/2025 11:55

2 elections here.

Polling Station hardly overrun with voters when I went around an hour ago.

more tactical on the council election, and probably my vote as much for the person.

preferred choice on the Mayor as that is likely where I am more a three horse race.

Will also those councils - are there 6 or 7 of them - be having their postponed elections next May - presumably for the new council / councils?

weirdwalking · 01/05/2025 12:01

Local election here. Voting Green as the green candidate has been amazing as a councillor and want to keep her in. So really it’s person not party.

clarrylove · 01/05/2025 12:02

Voting independent. A person with a good track record locally and works really hard for the community.

We are too but we are not the priority ones so elections still went ahead.

gingercat02 · 01/05/2025 12:06

We only have voting for our Mayor. I voted for one of the 2 people who want to abolish the mayoral role.

ilovesooty · 01/05/2025 12:08

No voting here. It's a fallow year.

JoanChitty · 01/05/2025 12:09

No voting here in my part of Hampshire too

crackofdoom · 01/05/2025 12:11

I don't really understand how anyone can tactically vote when they haven't published ward- by-"ward polling intentions! I guess in some places it's obvious- not in my ward though. Our sitting Tory councillor is standing down, and in his place someone I personally know and strongly dislike is standing.

I would vote Green if there was a candidate in our ward (there isn't)- currently dickering between Lib Dem and Mebyon Kernow 🤔

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 01/05/2025 12:12

It's looking like a straight fight between Labour and Reform here, so voting Labour is a no-brainer for me. I actually know the candidate and don't like her very much, but needs must! None of the other parties are serious contenders right now.

SimpleSister · 01/05/2025 12:12

I hope our Councillor gets re-elected, he has lived here a long time and is very helpful but he is Tory and new estates seem to be covered in posters for others. No Reform here. (yet)

GoldfinchFeather · 01/05/2025 12:14

I'll be voting Conservative - he's the only candidate who actually lives in the area, and has been very visible in helping out the community. He personally helped out my family when we were flooded a few years ago, even though he didn't have to.

Ultimately, this vote is for what's best for your local area. I have no idea who the other candidates are, as you only ever hear about them when they want your vote!

Summerseagull · 01/05/2025 12:16

I went green in the end ,I don't agree with everything they stand for ,but it was the lesser of the evils

OP posts:
Runnersandtoms · 01/05/2025 12:17

I'll be voting for the local guy who is visible all year round out there doing stuff in the community. He's Labour but campaigning almost like an independent as he's aware people are disgruntled with Labour.

Summerseagull · 01/05/2025 12:17

The polling station was very quiet,
Lady on the desk said it was a very slow morning, not many turning out so far .

Apparently so. But they might move the goalposts again before then.

Greenartywitch · 01/05/2025 12:21

I just voted. It was fairly quiet and there was a reform campaigner loitering outside the polling station...

I voted Green.

I voted Labour in the general election, but they have now lost my vote forever due to Rachel Reeves and the focus on making the vulnerable poorer (disabled, pensioners) while failing to tax big corporations/the richest in society or to control utility companies greed.

drspouse · 01/05/2025 12:21

I'm voting Labour as a reward for good behaviour over the Supreme Court verdict.
I sometimes vote Green because our county councillor is good and sane, but this election isn't for them and I have no idea about the district Green candidate.

My whole family were life long labour voters
Not any more ,for the reasons you state

I'm not voting - there has been absolutely nothing through the door or door knockers, so I'm assuming its a done deal. I could spend time looking, but I'm just so disengaged from the lot of them.

UtterlyOtterly · 01/05/2025 12:27

We have a local councillor who is brilliant. He is always posting helpful information on road works, road closures, flooding etc. If something is broken he will push to get it fixed, eg play equipment, pedestrian crossings, pot holes. He is very hands on and is always out and about talking to people. He was at the recent community litter pick.

So he gets my vote, irrespective of his party which is one which I wouldn't normally vote for.

GoodCharl · 01/05/2025 12:28

Im not planning to vote. All parties are a shit show.

bestcatlife · 01/05/2025 12:30

Didn't receive a polling card so assume no election in my area. But if there was I would vote Green
