Stil not sure who I'm going to vote for
Most people I've talked to are voting tactically ,and not going with who they really want to vote for
I'm usually green ,so most probably will go with that
But be good to hear why people vote for who they do

I’ll be voting the labour candidate. Mainly because Shropshire first candidate is a complete tosser.
ill never vote reform and have no idea who the other ones are.

MrsSlocombesCat · 01/05/2025 12:35

I probably won't bother. I usually vote Labour but they have betrayed their grassroots members and failed to keep their promises. Lib Dems let us down when they got into bed with the Tories. Reform are just a joke. I will always hate the Tories. I feel politically homeless now that every party penalises the poor and disabled but let's the rich get away with not paying their fair share of taxes. Even the Greens will make driving a car too expensive which will also affect the poor.

sparrowflewdown · 01/05/2025 12:37

Yes, thanks for reminding me. I would normally vote Conservative, but I am voting Reform today.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 01/05/2025 12:39

@NCLAT, what was so funny about my post? Perhaps you'd care to come and share your views on the thread instead of just laughing at other posters?

I read they are expecting to get a lot of votes

I voted green as they have been really present here the last couple of months, door knocking, leaflets and a thank you card which came yesterday saying thank you for the support. Also after I voted today another person is door knocking for he greens.
I usually vote labour but not now.

feellikeanalien · 01/05/2025 12:49

I am not sure if I will vote or not. We have had loads of stuff through from Reform and they have a huge van driving through the area.

I had a leaflet from the Tories but nothing from the other parties and had to Google to find out who was standing.

I feel I should vote but no party seems that interested in giving me reasons why I should, apart from Reform, and I definitely won't vote for them. The only reason I would vote is to try to ensure Reform don't get in but I have no clue who that would be in our area. We currently have a Tory council.

Boing98 · 01/05/2025 12:54

Thankfully, It's a beautiful day here, so most of the potential, local reform voters won't surface before 10, and will then be spending the afternoon in the pub garden.

RaspberryRipple2 · 01/05/2025 12:57

I’ve never voted in a local election before as I generally despise the infighting and pettiness involved in local politics around here. However I’m going to pop up and vote labour very shortly just to ensure my anti-misinformation, non-propaganda based vote is counted in these days reminiscent of early 30s Europe.

Ihateslugs · 01/05/2025 13:16

No voting in my area but if there was I would be torn. I have a lot of respect for our current councillor although he is a Conservative and I usually vote Lib Dem. However he is a brilliant guy, quite young, always out and about in our area following up issues and being very hands on. Recently some posted on our FB page that a bus stop had been vandalised and glass was all over the pavement. It was a Saturday morning and he went round with a brush and shovel, swept up all the glass and removed some broken iron pieces to the hedge at the back of the pavement so it was safe for people to walk past. He then reported the damage to the council and it was fixed very quickly. He does this sort of thing a lot.

So at a local level, I want him to continue but I don’t want Conservative to get a majority on the council which is currently Lib Dem.

northernballer · 01/05/2025 13:44

Usually vote Labour but my newly elected parachuted in Labour MP doesn't get back to her constituents when they need her so gone Green as they are at least active all year round, even tho we disagree on some issues.

Slim.pickings my way though.

tobee · 01/05/2025 13:47

No elections here but it's an extraordinary day when I'm more shocked that people are voting Green than those voting Reform. I'm horrified they are voting Reform. But not shocked.

JHound · 01/05/2025 13:52

No elections in my area.

MadeleineAllbright · 01/05/2025 13:56

It’s District Council and County Council for us, so two votes.

Will be reluctantly voting Tory at the District level to try to unseat an awful Lib Dem incumbent who is doing real damage. Probably Green for County Council, though I haven’t 100% made my mind up yet.

chillpizza · 01/05/2025 14:03

Mayor vote here.

Toss up between cons or reform.

Green is a wasted vote and the labour person hasn’t done bugger all for the last few years either so definitely not them.

JHound · 01/05/2025 14:04

If they did have elections here no idea who I would vote as recently moved. My last area they weighed the Labour votes so I could vote for whoever I wanted as Labour would win anyway.

HollyBerryz · 01/05/2025 14:33

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/05/2025 11:47

Some of us aren’t able to vote because they’re planning to turn us into unitary authorities.

This. I wanted to vote!

Papyrophile · 01/05/2025 14:34

Our local candidates have been ultra busy. Labour have been round twice today! However, all the candidates are saying the same words, housing and planning, and sewage.

FlorbelaEspanca · 01/05/2025 16:06

Where I live it's between Labour and Green. But if Labour win the seat it's more likely they'll end up with an overall majority, and I don't think it's healthy for local authorities (or parliament either actually) to have overall majorities of any kind: it's healthier if policies have to be negotiated in real time rather than just shoved through. But if the Greens win - well they're so up to their necks in the trans rights nonsense I've gone right off them. Impossible dilemma - so I voted for a LibDem no hoper.

ARichtGoodDram · 01/05/2025 16:11

I've voted for Labour today as our local candidate is excellent.
The only other one that I've seen do any canvassing is a Conservative and he talked a lot about what Labour have done wrong, but couldn't actually any questions about what he would do about local issues. And he has steadfastly ignored questions from people about local uproar about a new secondary school being built that currently appears to have plans for unisex toilets. Even pre SC the Labour candidate was all over that.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/05/2025 16:13

FPTP Yes. Mayoral too (were 2nd pref in past).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/05/2025 17:53

I’m not going to bother, naturally centre right so conservative but feeling a bit bleugh about politics right now.

I’m confusingly thinking that Keir Starmer stands for my slightly right of centre beliefs which is all very odd.

I think reform will do well, and I don’t want them to,

MayMadness2025 · 01/05/2025 18:05

I was Labour but with them going after individuals on PIP rather than targeting the businesses that avoid paying taxes when money is earnt here and closing loopholes for very wealthy avoiding paying tax.

I agree with the non payment of WFA to the more wealthy pensioners since I know of quite a few that really don't need it at all. Perhaps a minimum income and then pensioners should get it rather than on pension credit but I guess that's the same but with a slightly higher income.

Couldn't go for Green who still don't recognise biological women. Have voted for them in the past but cannot until they stop with the attacks on biological women in favour of men in dresses.

So was very difficult.
