Owen Lawrence - Leeds crossbow misogynist

I searched but couldn't find a thread discussing this. There was apparently a "hate filled" manifesto on facebook before the attack in Leeds, where Owen used a crossbow to hit two women. Often on here we talk about young men and boys and their misogynistic online presence but this guy was 38 - old enough to be a father himself and clearly not a respectable role model. AIBU to think the idea of men who are older retraining into teaching roles isn't going to magically reverse this and may indeed make it worse? This violent behaviour against women clearly spans all ages and the right wing authoritarians in particular. Does anyone know how men are still getting hold of crossbows after Labour were supposed to be banning them? Is anyone else becoming increasingly worried about the growing threat these men are posing to women out in public?

'Adolescence' isn't propaganda. It is a fictional film about a phenomenon that is real. Teachers see it in their classrooms every day.

Misogyny and associated crimes are real. Nicholas Prosper, Kyle Clifford, Owen Lawrence - these are all real people whose misogynistic beliefs caused them to do real harm. Why do you think misogyny isn't real?

Posts get taken down because they are against the guidelines. By posting on here, you agree to accept those guidelines. That isn't censorship - Mumsnet is a private business, and private businesses get to set their own rules, as long as they do not contravene legislation.

Maybe do a bit of reading up around how things work before displaying your lack of understanding.

It was terms like ‘your rancid hole’ which prompted that. Not really a coherent discussion but perhaps an indication of the type of issue of concern.

If a coherent and meaningful discussion was offered, I imagine it would be met with likewise.

I do think its fair to acknowledge that the rise of open misogyny is associated with the recent trent towards right wing, authoritarian politics. It's certainly someone the United Nations have been discussing recently.

I'm certainly not saying that right wing men are misogynistic and left wing men are not, but it is a more pronounced and growing problem in certain subsets of right wing politics.
