To put recycling outside the neighbours house for the refuse collectors to take?

My neighbours are away for a month so not generating any rubbish. We are allowed two bags of recycling per house (any more and the refuse collectors will leave it).

Aibu to put my two extra extra bags of recycling on the path near their house to be collected? We had lots of extra over Easter and as we don’t live anywhere near a tidy tip, I thought this would be a good solution.

If people think it’s a CF thing to do I won’t, but
wanted to see what others would do!

YABU: don’t do it
YANBU: It’s fine, do it!

I guess so. But if they've got a doorbell camera or CCTV they might see and get the hump. I don't really see why though. I guess if you see a camera maybe just message them politely to ask? If not just go for it.

Just text them and ask! I’m sure they won’t mind recycling. If you’re not friendly enough to have their number, then I wouldn’t do it.

Bobbiepin · 29/04/2025 13:53

I'd drop them a text if you have their number but if they are away I'd go for it.

What is a tidy tip?
No, you shouldn't be a CF whether the neighbours are there or not

It’s somewhere run by the council you can take your rubbish to. Used to be known as ‘the dump’.

So it’s just your own bags, placed on the pavement outside the neighbour’s house? You’re not going and getting their bin or anything like that? I can’t see why anyone would care about that at all.

IThoughtHeWasWithYou · 29/04/2025 13:58

The only way this would annoy me (as the neighbour) would be if I did still have recycling to go out while I was away, and I’d asked someone else to put out my recycling on the day. If my bags weren’t taken because you’d put more down, I’d be irritated. Our neighbour across from us occasionally asks us to put their bins out when they go away, so it happens occasionally.

Maybe wait til the morning of, and check they haven’t had someone do theirs.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 29/04/2025 14:11

My NDN is always putting stuff in our bins, especially green one which we have to pay £49 extra for and display the license on the bin (I don't do
the gardening anymore and H
only does the bare minimum). If there's room I can't see a problem.

Put your bags outside theirs if no one else has already.

Wahsingday · 29/04/2025 15:25

I’d text them to ask, just incase they have some that they have asked someone else to put out for them, or incase they’ve already told another neighbour that they can leave rubbish out .

Beamur · 29/04/2025 15:27

I wouldn't mind my neighbours doing this.

WallaceinAnderland · 29/04/2025 16:13

I've never heard of a 'tidy' tip.

Going to 'the tip' yes, but not the tidy tip.

WhereAreTheWildThingsNow · 29/04/2025 17:04

This sort of transaction is what the neighbourhood WhatsApp was made for. Just post on there and ask if anyone has space.

crockofshite · 29/04/2025 18:10

Yes, why not? You're not leaving it on their doorstep or in their garden are you? Public highway is..... Public. And it's an efficient way of disposing of household waste if the council has such a petty rule .

Presume there's no foxes roaming your area ripping bags? We are near a naice area but the naice residents are lazy and don't clean up after the foxes have been through their stuff.

notsureyetcertain · 29/04/2025 18:39

If u don’t need to use their bins yes. Otherwise no

Patchworktulips · 01/05/2025 06:45

Put the bags out and it was fine and they got taken by the refuse collectors!
