Lump question

Hi!

very niche I know but wondering if anyone has any knowledge about it!

I posted here about a lump and was advised to go to my GP (I was really reluctant to as I didn’t want to be a time waster but my boyfriend kept telling me to go too so I decided to go to get him off my back haha)

anyway, I went and got it checked and they’ve referred me to get it checked at the hospital so just waiting for that appt, really glad I followed the advice to get it double checked😊

Like I said in my previous post, im not concerned because I’m young and healthy but obviously I’m a bit curious with what it could be.

it started 6-7 weeks ago, it feels rock solid and hard but very very slight squishy if you really press on it with a lot of force. It’s not painful or tender at all. When I first posted I couldn’t really describe where it was as I have no idea the anatomy etc but when I went to the GP they described it as around the
‘left sternoclavical joint area’.

i googled it (worst thing to do I know!) and it keeps bringing up arthritis and dislocations and saying it’s most likely dislocated as there’s no lymph nodes round here (eg a swollen lymph node from infection or whatever) but wouldn’t it be really painful if that was the case? It’s literally not sore at all, no issues moving my arm or shoulder, it’s not different at all other than the lump.

I’m not worried because it’ll be fine but I’m just a bit curious. I know nobody can say for certain, and obviously I’m going to wait for the appointment to know for sure but in the meantime I just wondered if anyone had any knowledge or experience with a lump at this area? Or if anyone has had a similar thing? When I posted before I was vaguely saying my collarbone but was so vague it didn’t really help haha

i was half considering just booking a private ultrasound to check it but realistically I can’t do anything with the information I get from that until the hospital appointment anyway so may aswell just wait for that

thanks!

You are right to have it checked. Inwas very young when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 10yrs ago. So follow through with your appt.
NICE protocols is when you have lump you get fast tracked so how long have you been waiting?

anyway, it s probably nothing. So please stop the googling and the catastrophising. If it is something, you ce done the right thing by having it checked. They ll do more investigation and then you ll be on a treatment pathway.

hang in there, it s hard i know. Distract yourself with work and with some projects whatever you fancy.

good luck.

Oh i literally just went and was referred so ive not been waiting long at all. I think they said you’ll hopefully be seen in 2-4 weeks so shouldn’t be too long!

it’s weird because usually im a total worrier but for this im not worried at all, i think because deep down im certain it’ll be absolutely fine and probably just a bit of inflammation or swelling, just weird because id have thought that would be painful whereas this isn’t!

Cysts can sometimes feel hard but a bit “squishy”. Perhaps that’s all it is, but you won’t know for sure of course until your appointment. It doesn’t help that things like cysts and some other growths aren’t painful, so it’s really hard to figure out yourself.

Good luck, hopefully it’s nothing to worry about; it’s good you’re getting seen very soon.

I had a bunch of lumps appear a few years back and turns out they're just Lypoma, benign and nothing to worry about but still worth getting checked out to be sure.

Bobbiepin · 28/04/2025 14:38

I'm not a doctor but your post did make me think cyst. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

PumpkinSoup1234 · 28/04/2025 19:31

Yeah I was wondering if it could be cyst

it’s weird because it feels solid at first but when you really really press into it it feels every so slightly soft but still it hard overall IYSWIM

Apologies, another cheeky bump!

last cheeky bump attempt with a picture of the lump today (in the picture it looks like there’s a lump beside it but there isn’t, it’s just my clavicle and it’s not raised etc it’s just the same as the other side)

got an appointment for it next week so not too long a wait left thankfully 👍🏼
