NC as friend is on Mumsnet.

Friend has a milestone birthday coming up. For various reasons have to be in Oxford but don't know the area at all.

Would welcome any suggestions.

Depending on the time of year/ if it’s a daytime event, you could take in the Botanic Gardens as part of it.

Quod Restaurant & Bar is good.

Hi thanks for that. Was thinking daytime or early evening in July.

Lots to do in Oxford. Depends though. A 30th is a bit different to a 60th.

Arbequina has an upstairs room and does amazing food. Cowley Road.

Cherwell boat house for early evening Pimm’s and punting followed by an excellent dinner?

HarpSnail · 26/04/2025 11:04

Well, what does the friend like doing, and how old is she? I’d be punting, having cocktails at Freud’s or the Duke of Cambridge, or maybe drinks out at the Trout if the weather is nice? What’s your budget? Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons fed me one of the loveliest meals of my life many years ago.

CubanCactus · 26/04/2025 12:12

She will be 30 but relatives will be invited too. Love the suggestions.

Varsity Club (rooftop) for cocktails. You used to be able to book an area.

Salter’s Steamers do river trips and you can finish/start at the Head of the River pub which has a great terrace. Food and drink available.

Rooftop restaurant at the Ashmolean is good.

Cherwell boathouse and punting is a great shout. You can also punt from Magdalen Bridge and then wander up the Cowley Road for a more gritty city experience.

Jericho is a much overlooked area of Oxford - you will find pubs with live music and it’s a more authentic/ less touristy feel.

And for a laugh try Sixes ( cricket simulator), Junkyard Golf or the Escape Room.

Afternoon - punting with champagne and strawberries.
Evening Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons and tell them beforehand that it is a "significant" birthday.

Victors on the roof of Westgate has great food and a nice vibe for dinner.

You’d better have deep pockets for Le Manoir. Set menu starts at £215 pp without drinks and service.

Unfortunately no deep pockets
