Am I over exaggerating?

Ok, I just wonder if I’m over exaggerating but it is something that my husband does that really irritates me and it seems to be getting worse. I’ve mentioned it a few times and he just gets really offended and says I’m being silly!

So when my husband is telling stories, he always points out the price of things. So tonight for example someone asked how our trip to London was and he said ‘we got in an Uber for half an hour and it was only £13, London seems cheaper than here now’ and proceeded to list what was cheaper rather than telling our friends what we got up to or how much of a nice time we had. This is just one example, the same friend asked about a night away we had and he said ‘oh we got given a voucher and only had to pay £30 on top of it for the night and then dinner was bla bla bla’ and so on and so forth, all conversations leading back to the price of things, it’s exhausting!

am I just being ‘silly’?!

I think you need to think about why this actually bothers you. I doubt anyone else notices.

Scousemousey · 25/04/2025 20:58

Is he a bit tight with money?

Theoldholeyjumper · 25/04/2025 21:06

That would do my head in too.
Mentioning a particularly good bargain or moaning about something being unreasonably expensive is one thing but only talking about money and ignoring what you actually spent time doing together really tells you where his priorities lie

It sounds like that might just be the way he tells the story. Probably you should just try to overlook it. I'm sure there are things you do that irritate him that really are probably not a big deal. Such as saying "over exaggerate."

@Springadorable
I know it sounds petty and it genuinely doesn’t go any deeper but it irritates me because it’s often a really unnecessary addition to the story!

@Scousemousey Hmm yes and no, he moans a lot about the cost of living and after being to the supermarket will moan about things going up by a couple of pence etc but then he will spend lots of bigger things…he’s pretty obsessed with getting ‘good value’ for his money, which I do understand and I agree that’s important.

@Theoldholeyjumper Yes! That’s exactly what I am getting at, it is often the first thing he mentions in certain situations 🤦‍♀️
