To stop neighbours kids keep walking on my plants?

Basically I am really getting annoyed with my neighbours kids and their friends keep walking all over my lovely plants.

I have a bedding area outside my window and every day they will cut through running all over my plants.

Last week one of the kids had put their bike on my car door and I went round and told the mum who was apologetic but it’s non stop now.

I am not thinking of planting some kind of prickly hedge to deter this as they walk straight pass my window and even the mum just stands there looking and I feel as I have no privacy.

AIBU?
Any suggestions kindly welcome please.

Put up a fence

Pyracantha hedging will solve your problem here.

Is your garden open plan OP?
If so I would certainly be putting up hedges or fences.

DissDissOrDiss · 25/04/2025 18:41

I would ask once and then I would ROAR at them next time it happened. Truly, I’d be apoplectic the 2nd time.

I look at fencing the area so they can’t walk across, anything you plant they’ll probably walk over unless you can afford to get well established shrubs.
I’d also speak to the parents again

MsBette · 25/04/2025 18:42

Have you told the kids off yourself? Sounds like the mum is having no effect.

steppemum · 25/04/2025 18:50

Have you ever spoken to the kids?

I would go outside and say very clearly and firmly. This is MY garden.

You are not to walk across here or here. You have to go around on the path there.

Every time for about a week, and then I might stand outside watering my garden with a hose....

Yes I have told the kids nicely to no avail.

It is an open plan bedding area, I have considered something like this but I am not sure if it would look silly.

hmm, telling them nicely isn't doing it. They need to know that you are serious, and firm.

But I would get a fence. Just make it high enough that they can't step over it.
Prickly plants would do, but then you have to prune them and deal with the prickles!

I think kids will just hop over something like that. A prickly hedge is better, though agree with PP that roaring at them a time or two might do the trick and mean you don’t need to go to any expense or change the look of things.

Sprinkler system that turns on by sensor?

Worked for me! Only took one infuriated bellow.
