There is now not a single public space in my home town that is dog-free - and that includes cafes, restaurants and even the library. Local beaches, once a quiet escape, have turned into asylums for the fur baby/pupper brigade to inflict their poorly trained animals on others with children getting chased, people jumped on and tripped over and all to the sound of hysterical barking and frequent dog fights.
80 year old woman knocked over by uncontrollable dog? 'You got in his way'.
Ask politely that you take your dog away from our lunch table? 'Go fuck yourself'.
Sit on the most remote bench you can find? Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan lets loose 3 dogs from her 4x4 to jump all over you and laughs that it's 'their spot' and turns unhinged when you push them away.
Yes, this is a rant and yes I hate most dog owners.
This weird cult that values darling dogs over human beings is actually pretty worrying.
I shall await the inevitable and hilarious 'incoming' from the emotionally stunted Doggo Nutters.

Fully agree

ImAFancyLady · 25/04/2025 13:34

And don't even start me on dog ice cream, dog afternoon teas and dog birthday parties! We live in a world where people are starving, children are starving, and we're feeding our dogs puddings. What a criminal waste of resources.

Mrsbloggz · 25/04/2025 13:34

Those of us who would prefer to be free of the dog nuisance need to start voting with our feet.
If a shop or a cafe has dogs in it you walk out and you tell the staff that you won't be buying anything because you don't want to have to put up with the dogs on the premises.

Even if this is true, why do you bracket dogs with children?

Badly behaved children are a pain, sure, but they’re humans, you know, like me and you. Dogs are not humans. They’re dogs. They have no more rights and privileges than pigeons.

Yes but you are assuming that 'humans' are in charge and own the world.

Who said. I mean yes by force we overrule animals because we have a higher IQ. We are not 'better' than them.

All I'm saying is look at the mess the world is in with us 'superior' humans. Wars, mass consumerism, vunerable children being neglected, natural resources being stripped, everyone looking out for themselves.

I mean dinosaurs used to rule the earth because they were bigger than all the other animals. Did that make them 'better'

Dictators rule their people and dictate to them what they should and shouldn't do - does that make them better than their 'subjects' or just more evil.

The longer I live (and I'm pretty old now) the less regard I have for a huge percentage of humans and appreciate much more the simple and kind, straight forward nature of animals.

MadisonAvenue · 25/04/2025 13:36

We’ve just got a rescue puppy after losing our old dog last Summer. He was incredibly well behaved and we hope to train our new boy the same way.

Right now it’s a beautiful day and I’d love to be taking him for a walk where we’d see regular dog walkers who I know from before and this would help with his socialisation. We live backing onto an AONB so it’s ideal, but it’s still school holidays here and there are too many entitled dog owners walking there with poorly trained dogs, off lead and which they have little control over, and their children dropping litter. You can always tell when it’s a school holiday by the state of the paths, they’re littered with crisp packets and dog mess.

Our friends own a cafe. Business has increased since allowing dogs.

Mrsbloggz · 25/04/2025 13:37

Humans are in charge of the human world and dogs are a creation of the human world. They are not an endangered species that needs saving, they only exist at our behest.

Annialisting · 25/04/2025 13:37

Oh goody, yet another dog hating thread! It’s just what we need!

Reetpetitenot · 25/04/2025 13:37

Agree, OP. Out for a walk last Sunday, loads of new lambs in fields, many signs asking dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead. All but one completely ignoring the signs.

And don't get me started on retractable leads. Just because you can extend them to 30 feet, doesn't mean you should be doing it in crowded places.

Having seen a dog pissing on an art installation in a gallery and the owner laughing, I think there should be a sharp roll back on places where dogs are welcome, and would seriously like to see the return of the dog license at a hefty rate - if you can't afford a dog licence of £100 per year, you can't afford a dog.

FourChimneys · 25/04/2025 13:37

I agree OP. The annoying creatures are everywhere. Shops, pubs, cafes, beaches.

On the plus side it saves us a fortune. On our last visit to a popular UK area we stayed in a gorgeous dog free cottage, and apart from the rental cost didn't spend another penny. Not a single tea shop, cafe or pub was dog free. We did all our own catering and took flasks.

I find carrying a metal walking pole dissuades most dogs and their owners.

viques · 25/04/2025 13:38

My absolute hate is those idiots to have their dogs on an extended lead while walking them on a pavement. No, you keep your dog under control on a short leash when on a pavement where there are other people who don’t want to be tripped up or sniffed at. That extendable leash is for when your dog, who you haven’t managed to train enough to have consistent recall, can have a little run around in a park.

Perkuppaige · 25/04/2025 12:17

I have a lovely park/woods near me which should be a joy to walk through - is it hell… you can’t move for dogs, all off lead, often growling, barking and fighting with other dogs whilst there owners stand around chatting to the point that you have to get off the paths and often walk in muddy grass just to get by. These dog owners honestly believe that the park is for their purpose only.

Where are you allowed to go with your dog then? Not cafes obviously because how dare they sit outside with a dog and buy a sandwich, and now according to you not a park or woods ? Wtf?

MyDeftDuck · 25/04/2025 13:39

I used to go to a regular cafe meet-up in our local church………..until someone started taking their dog and me being highly sensitive to dog fur/dander I had to stop going.

Those dog owners who think it is acceptable for their bloody dog to jump up at every human being it sees really piss me off too! And they go so defensive when I object……….NO I DO NOT WANT MUDDY PAW MARKS ON MY CLOTHES,

I’m afraid I’m one of those people who takes their handbag chihuahua everywhere. He’s great and makes me and lots of other people very happy and I much prefer his company to anyone else’s. He’s quiet and often people don’t even notice him. And he brings so much joy to people. I actually have the opposite problem, that people, especially small kids, are always running up and wanting to touch and pester him in cafes and public spaces if he’s visible to them. Luckily he’s an absolute wonder with people and tolerates all the patting and ear pulling like a champ. I once had a woman literally shove her face up to his and try to snog him (complete stranger) and I had to tell her to back off because I could see his warning signs that he was not comfortable (and would you be if a stranger did that to you?!).

I’m sure I’ll have plenty of people disagree and think I’m the enemy here but I could be sitting next to you in a cafe right now with my snoozing pocket chihuahua and you probably haven’t even noticed him!

I might not have noticed your dog but I would know I was near an animal as my eyes would be itchy, sore and weeping! I’m very allergic to most animals and am affected just by sitting next to someone who owns a cat, dog or a horse! I have to take antihistamines and carry eye drops with me whenever I go to a meeting or public indoor space. It’s really annoying for me but by planning ahead, I usually cope.

My daughter has two house cats, a dog and two horses so I rarely go to her house!

Oh dear the irony is just lost on you isn't it.

This whole thread is about people who 'aren't mature enough to cope with an opinion' that some prefer dogs to children.

I refer you back to your first post on the thread! Enough said.

MirrorMirror70 · 25/04/2025 13:41

I fully agree. DS5 is utterly terrified of dogs as he’s had a few taller than him jumping up at him, and even one who fully went for him snarling and snapping. On all occasions, he was minding his own business and hadn’t even so much as looked at the dog.

He cowers behind me if we are out and see a dog. He cries if one gets too close to him. And I can’t even reassure him that “it’s ok, they won’t hurt you” because how on earth can I know that? Instead I’m trying to teach him the signs as to whether a dog is friendly (tail wagging, ears up, tongue out) or not friendly (ears back, teeth bared, snarling). But it makes me angry that I’m having to train my small child in recognising dog behaviours and keeping himself safe just because fully grown adults CBA to control or manage their own dogs.

You can go to the park/woods with a well behaved, well trained dog, which is on a lead when necessary and isn't allowed to jump at people or terrorise other dogs.

I agree 100%. There are even dogs in my local church on Sundays, occasionally barking. I love animals by the way but there is a time and place for everything

That’s probably mine, although he doesn’t really bark.

CarefulN0w · 25/04/2025 13:42

You are not being unreasonable & I have 2 dogs. If I want lunch in a cafe, I leave them behind.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 25/04/2025 13:42

You sound upset OP so I'll give you this nugget. At the GP surgery for a blood test this lunchtime, woman comes in with her friend carrying a dog. A few minutes later she was politely asked to leave as the dog could not be in the surgery.

MattCauthon · 25/04/2025 13:42

I have a dog. I love dogs. NOTHING annoys me more than the fact that they are everywhere. I don't take my dog into shops and restaurants. Because she doesn't like it. Becuase she bothers other people. Becuase some people are allergic to dogs and have every right to expect spacse that are completely dog free.

Drives me mad.

Our local shopping centre isbeing overrun these days by people with their dogs. I just don't get it.

TheTigerWhoCameToBrunch · 25/04/2025 13:43

Yes.

I have gone from being a dog lover (or obsessive, tbf!) to REALLY not liking them anymore over the span of the last few years. I’m just sick of them everywhere. Can’t stand big dogs at all.

Because they cost £2k! That’s like leaving your keys in the car to be stolen!

You could always rescue one...
