To dare to think that the Cult of Dog has gone too far?

There is now not a single public space in my home town that is dog-free - and that includes cafes, restaurants and even the library. Local beaches, once a quiet escape, have turned into asylums for the fur baby/pupper brigade to inflict their poorly trained animals on others with children getting chased, people jumped on and tripped over and all to the sound of hysterical barking and frequent dog fights.
80 year old woman knocked over by uncontrollable dog? 'You got in his way'.
Ask politely that you take your dog away from our lunch table? 'Go fuck yourself'.
Sit on the most remote bench you can find? Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan lets loose 3 dogs from her 4x4 to jump all over you and laughs that it's 'their spot' and turns unhinged when you push them away.
Yes, this is a rant and yes I hate most dog owners.
This weird cult that values darling dogs over human beings is actually pretty worrying.
I shall await the inevitable and hilarious 'incoming' from the emotionally stunted Doggo Nutters.

Yanbu.

I went into a pub this week that had a 'pupperazzi' board.

A board with photos of all the 'puppers' who regularly visit (I assume). It was just photos of random dogs in the pub.

SiobahnRoy · 25/04/2025 13:10

YABU to hate all dog owners on the basis of some entitled numpties thinking they can do as they please.

Anywhere that serves food and drink should not have animals of any kind in it, IMHO.

Also all dogs should be on leads unless they are on private property.

There you go I've solved it.

You've not solved anything.

A lot of friends and family have been pushed to allow dogs in their businesses (mostly restaurants) to get the footfall required to be there. Less businesses means less money into the economy.

Unfortunately dogs in shops and cafes is one of many things keeping your taxes down and the NHS going.

Who do you think keeps cafes open in the winter or rainy days? Dog walkers who don't have the luxury to stay at home

Presumably you're not including assistance dogs...

Of course not

Totally agree, but some fur baby owners will be along in aa minute to tell you that would be against their dog's rights.

MariLlwyd · 25/04/2025 12:13

Yep! Will happily admit to it too.

Doesn’t mean you are wrong though!

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/04/2025 13:13

Fur babies 😡

StMarie4me · 25/04/2025 13:13

“Peri menopausal wild eyed harridan”?

Go fuck yourself, to use your language.

iamnotalemon · 25/04/2025 13:13

I prefer the cult of dog than the cult of children 😂

CoffeeWithHer · 25/04/2025 13:13

I agree! And I have a dog.

She is a bloody nightmare in public / on the lead so she lives the life of riley tearing around our local fields off lead chasing squirrels and then sleeping the rest of the time on the sofa.

I refuse to take her anywhere as she is an arsehole. Even though I absolutely adore her. I know her limits. And mine!

Monster6 · 25/04/2025 13:13

Totally agree. I don’t mind dogs, but dogs when I was growing up were usually working dogs or in rural locations with space to roam/exercise etc. At some point along the line they’ve become baby substitutes for post millennials who can’t be arsed with a real child.😑

Rummly · 25/04/2025 13:04

I love the dog owners who say they’ve never seen a nuisance dog. But hordes of children come up to their dog every day and torment it, apparently.

Absolute bollocks.

We’ve all seen dangerous or bloody irritating dogs. Children whacking dogs? No, about as likely as a bin collection in Birmingham.

Yes there are badly trained/controlled dogs. No doubt about it.

However there are definately badly behaved children too. Thankfully most parents seem to have told their children to ask the owner if they can pet their dog. This happens to me quite alot as my dog is small and cute. He is not remotely interested in children but will accept a small pet now and then.

He has however been chased by screaming children waving their hands about with a dad not paying attention. He moved away from them and they kept doing it to him. I don't think they were trying to hurt him although I did see them trying to grab his tail as he tried to get away from them. I suggested to the dad he might want to teach his children to not chase strange dogs as lucky mine is pretty placid but some might not be. His answer - if anything happened he'd be right to the police to make sure my dog got the full blame. I mean you can't reason with a person like that can you. Quite frankly a small nip to these children might be the best thing. They wouldn't be badly hurt but they would learn chasing dogs is dangerous.

I can assure you there are badly trained dogs and badly behaved children. Both are very annoying. People with dogs and no children, likely find the children the most annoying and vice versa.

The arrogance of human beings to assume we deserve better than any other living creature on the planet and that we 'own' everything.

Nonsense. Allowing dogs in doesn’t make a business viable (apart from vets and dog groomers, obvs).

Stupid dog owners have just complained their way in. The law needs to change.

333FionaG · 25/04/2025 12:06

Dogs are pets, not fur babies, and much as I love my two, and they are part of my family, they’re not human beings.

Its not that deep lol. It’s like when parents refer to their kids like princess etc. It’s hardly crime of the century to call pets your fur babies - it doesn’t take anything away from your human kids 😅

Ethina · 25/04/2025 13:15

I agree 100%. There are even dogs in my local church on Sundays, occasionally barking. I love animals by the way but there is a time and place for everything

MyLegoHair · 25/04/2025 13:16

I mean, generally I like dogs, and I wouldn't have worded it like that, but you do have a point op! 😆

FrozzyBrain · 25/04/2025 13:17

I’m a dog owner and would never take my dog to restaurants/pubs/libraries because he’s a nutter and nobody needs an excited springer bouncing off the walls.
There’s just too many stupid people with dogs around now.

While there is probably a good point buried in that overly dramatic and borderline misogynistic rant I am afraid I can't be arsed find it.

WestwardHo1 · 25/04/2025 13:18

It was all going so well until Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan.

Which is a shame because the rest of it was bang on.

clarabenton · 25/04/2025 13:18

Completely agree. It has damaged one of my oldest friendships with someone whose massive dog is clearly unsafe around people, has bitten a human before and leaps up on people aggressively. They cannot understand why I don’t want to see them with my kids or even tbh just me and DH when dog is present. As with many dog owners it’s apparently not possible to meet up without dogs present so the friendship has fizzled out after decades which is really sad.

I don't remember the last time I saw a dog tie up outside a shop. YANBU at all!

Possibly because some fucker will try and steal said dog. No way I’m leaving my little furry dude tied up while I nip in the co-op

It must have been at least 48 hours since we last had a dog moaning thread 🥱

Surely this shows how utterly bloody sick of them people have got.

This is really uninformed.

I grew up in an abusive, cruel home with 2 mentally ill parents. As a result I never had children. Not cos I 'couldn't be bothered' but because I had no desire to recreate a 'family' having seen what it was like. I had saw how evil and cruel many humans are.

On the other hand I was lucky enough to discover dog ownership in my forties and have realised that dogs are loyal, kind, fair with quite basic needs who give unconditional love. This is quite amazing for people like me.

I love how humans think they are in charge of planet earth and everything on it.

It's a shame we can't learn how to be better people from our loyal animals - they could teach us so much.

Salad666 · 25/04/2025 13:20

🥱

Not all dogs are badly trained. Actually, from my experience most dogs allowed in these places and much better behaved than bratty kids.

Let's ban them and THEN think about banning dogs 😴

Catrionablocke · 25/04/2025 13:21

IWishIHadntDoneThat · 25/04/2025 13:03

that's a very unkind comment. These dogs are likely old, injured or unable to walk for some reason.

When my dog had both his cruciate ligaments done (metal plates) he was on very restricted exercise till they healed. He had to be supported to pee/poo as couldn't put weight on his back legs at all.

He was only 2 at the time so found this most frustrating and boring.

I carried him to local park and put him down to pee, then picked him up again and took him to another spot to pee and so on.

I did this cos I love him and at least this way got to sniff the air and mark his territory. i suppose a bit like taking a disabled person out in a wheelchair (done that too). They still like to get out and about.

Quite frankly a dog 'pram' of some sort would have made it easier as despite being a small dog he is quite solid and heavy.

I doubt any dog owner would push a healthy dog in a pram for no reason. We know people are judging us.

My dog is getting old now and has heart problems. I've already thought about what I will do when he is no longer able to go for walks. I'll probably just drive him in the car to different parks and let him doddle about. However I might buy some sort of dog 'pram' so I can walk myself for exercise and let him enjoy some fresh air, dog sniffs, new territories.

Yes I will buy the least looking 'pram' one I can find cos I have no desire to have anyone think I am taking my dog out in a pram.

Very small minded/cruel though what you said.

Dogs are very loving, loyal and kind and ask very little from their humans. It's a shame that most of us are not worthy of them.

I don't care what you think. They look ridiculous
