Russia still bombing Ukraine.

The deal is Russia keep all areas captured during their invasion. Crimes is also recognised by The US and Russian.

The US get the mineral deal.

No safety guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile a block of flats bombed overnight with more deaths.

Trump isn't stopping the war. He's enabled Russia to continue, until they get what they want.

It’s not a deal because Ukraine won’t accept it. YABU if you ever thought Trump would work for a deal that benefitted anyone other than himself (first) and Putin.

lljkk · 24/04/2025 18:20

er, yeah. The trump philosophy is that bullies win. they win by bullying & they are entitled to bully because they are the bad asses. It's the fault of less powerful countries that they are less powerful.

In other news, the sky is often blue and the Pope is Catholic.

Fair comment.

I feel so sad for Ukraine. To possibly stop Russia, I say possibly since they may restart again, they have to give up lots of captured land and minerals.

Trump is a bulky and greedy. Putin must love Trump since all words but Trump just does nothing.

Russia/Putin playing the long game. So concerned they invaded Crinea in 2014, despite the Bucharest memorandum signed by UK/u.S/Belarus, kazhakstan /Ukraine and Putin in the mid 1990's. Ukraine, Belarus and Kazhakstan agreed as part of this to give up their nuclear weapons, and so Russia invades Crimea and continues to attack Ukraine. Goof on zelensky for not backing down.

PUTIN SHOULD not get away with either invasuon of crimea or Ukraine.

What do you think Ukraine should do? Give up kand and minerals and stop fighting or fight on and lose more people?

I totally agree but with Trump not doing anything but conceed on behalf of Ukraine it doesn't look like stopping anytime soon.

I don’t think they have a choice. If they give up, Putin will come again. They may as well plough on now.

I am not able to solve this problem or identify the solution, either. It's all terrible. I can only feel confident in describing Trumpian philosophy = "The biggest bully gets everything they want". Which is why Russia doesn't have to give up anything in Trump's mind. Trump wants to take credit for "ending the war". Just like he takes credit for "trade deals" that are actually only temporary pauses in trade hostilities. Is Trump's main interest in the situation. The terrible loss of life in the Ukr.Rus war seems to be very central in Trump's brain, too, tbf, but that doesn't mean the bully shouldn't win. If you believe the Bully should win, then of course Ukraine is to blame for not just giving in to Ukraine.

I suspect the Ukr vs. Rus settlement for temporary peace (doomed to be temp) will be that USA agrees not to dispute nor formally acknowledge that Crimea is Russian territory, and that Russia gets to "keep" on same terms all the Ukranian territory they occupy/occupied as of date x.

In return, Russian MUST return all the kidnapped children & Ukran POWs, maybe.

The lack of US will to keep supporting Ukraine means that Nothing is going to stop Russia from invading Ukraine again, I fear.

Gardenbumblebee · 24/04/2025 18:43

Agree US is a bully and is protecting its bullying friend Russia. How will this play out for Ukraine if they keep going? Russia will not stop. No one is coming to Ukraines aid other than sending money and weapons that will just prolong the war rather than ending it. My heart hurts for all the people around the world stuck in the nightmare of war.

Edited

Doesn't bode well for future invasions. Bully wins feels very hundreds of years ago way of doing things.

I feel for Ukraine and powerless to help.

Probably a bit simplistic but any pause will as we know be temporary. Europe can use the time to re-arm and rebuild its militarily capability (of course Russia will to) get rid of all Russian/ Chinese / Iranian interests in Europe. Any agreement will not be worth the paper its written on.

Then to the USA, this relationship will need to be very carefully managed. Especially around intelligence / information sharing. I think Starmer is trying to keep the USA on side, perhaps it will just take time another 4 years until theres a new POTUS with a bit of luck the psycopath in Russia might pop his clogs as well though he has played a blinder with regards to Brexit and now potentially separating the USA from the West as well.

AmIthatSpringy · 24/04/2025 22:01

its not a peace deal. That orange cunt and war criminal Putin are carving Ukraine up

it makes me so angry and I feel so impotent

Jabtastic · 26/04/2025 12:49

I am honestly in awe of Zelensky and I love this image of him. His courage just moves me very deeply and I pray for Ukraine to find peace - but not at any cost. I pray that even Trump is moved to think of the people of Ukraine and their rights in this situation.

I hope people in USA really reflect on the applause for Zelensky at Pope Francis's funeral. Do they really not understand or care how their standing in the world has been diminished by that awful scene in the Oval Office? The Americans I know are educated and 'liberal conservatives'. They feel deeply ashamed of their own people and government.
