Sides. No. It is side dishes. See also mains (Shudder)

I made lamb at Easter. No, you cooked it.

Cooked to your liking. Well they woudn't deliberately cook it otherwise if they wanted to stay in business...

“From scratch”.

sounds simultaneously smug and mediaeval.

Lush.

If someone reers to any sort of food as "lush" I'm out the door. It has severely teseted my friendship with one of my oldest and dearest friends - every time she says it a tiny bit of my love for her dies.

Don't move to Bristol then, it's practically compulsory here.

Oh and also (thank you for indulging peri-menopausal rage), we have family friends who refer to all meals as “eats”- as in “come over on Sunday for some eats”… they are so lovely but it makes me want to scream into a pillow every time

Nooooooo! Wrong in so many ways!

oldfatcatonmylap · 24/04/2025 12:42

Yes to 'marry me' dishes. They're always underwhelming as well

'Serve with good bread'

'If liked'

Hunter's chicken - silly name

Ooey-gooey

Tear and share

When chef's say 'I'm going in with the...' instead of 'I'm adding the....'

Yummy, nom nom

Iammatrix · 24/04/2025 12:43

When I cook a full English breakfast, my DH says ‘that was a mega breakfast’. I have asked him to stop saying it!

andtheworldrollson · 24/04/2025 12:45

Marry me chicken did confuse me - who would ask a chicken to marry them?

Tinkerbellflowers · 24/04/2025 12:45

Hoppinggreen · 24/04/2025 12:23

The word "meal"

I cannot stand that word either. It makes me think of what dogs or birds eat 🤮

IceColdChardonayPls · 24/04/2025 12:45

Bung it in the oven.

chuck it all in the air fryer.

Bone broth. Oh yes I havé met my tribe.

A whole new thread...

The use of the word 'tribe' when one stranger on the Internet happens to agree with you.

I think that trumps all cooking annoyances.

northshore · 24/04/2025 12:47

Punchy. Anything punchy - like rocket leaves.
Nooooooo Confused

Doitrightnow · 24/04/2025 12:51

Honest.

As in "honest food", "honest burgers" etc.

Especially if applied to a food full of hidden additives.

Pan-fried. What else would you fry it in?

You beat me to it - my pet hate!

Words · 24/04/2025 12:52

Family style

This! 👏

DejaMooo · 24/04/2025 12:54

All the trimmings. I really hate that expression.

Returnofthemark · 24/04/2025 12:54

Batch cooking.

Plate up.

Pack up instead of packed lunch.

Bung or chuck it in.

Forgaing. No, you picked it.

PluckyBamboo · 24/04/2025 12:55

Dirty, anything dirty e.g Dirty Fries 🤮

Allseeingallknowing · 24/04/2025 12:55

Slap up meal- sounds like everything was just tipped onto the plate!

PluckyBamboo · 24/04/2025 12:56

All of these and picky bits! All I can think of is a scab.

PluckyBamboo · 24/04/2025 12:58

Can we add in "mmmmmm" whenever anyone on TV tries food and we get the ridiculous "mmmmmm" before it's even hit their taste buds. Looking at you Cat Deeley and Alison Hammond.....

‘Fold in the cheese’

How do you fold in broken bits of cheese

andtheworldrollson · 24/04/2025 13:04

Pack up is regional I think

along with carry out vs takeaway

BreatheAndFocus · 24/04/2025 13:05

Dirty (one of my most hated!)
plate up (fuck off)
smoosh (are you 5yrs old?)
smashed (ooh, you so rad!)
eats - as in “This pudding eats well” (no, it bloody doesn’t - it’s a pudding!)
glug (sounds like you’re struggling to swallow vomit)
pan seared - (not in a dustbin lid, then 🙄)
cheeky - sooooo cringeworthy!

Reallybadidea · 24/04/2025 13:08

I don't know how to be any clearer.
