Help! I’ve got an awful hacking wet cough- and I go on holiday in a week. Any top tips how to get rid of it please?

I don’t want it lingering and it’s so bad! 🙈

I'm not really sure how to get rid of a cough fully, other than time, hot drinks and rest (although, that's presuming it's a cold and not just a cough), but for a small break from coughing when you feel like you can't stop, try eating something. I keep mints around for when I can't stop coughing in the night and it seems to help a bit more than drinking water.

My grandma used to make honey and thyme lozenges for coughs and sore throats. She’d boil the honey with a few sprigs of thyme. Then she’d use a teaspoon and drop it out on baking paper. Once they cooled she’d dust them with cinnamon. They were actually quite nice!

Guaifenesin Is really good for productive viral coughs. You have to take it three times a day for a week consistently.

Thanks so much everyone I’m off to make / buy these ingredients. On reflection after I wrote this post I started with shivers and aches so I think it’s a bit more than a cough now 😢
