AIBU to cancel interview due to COVID?

I have a job interview this morning but have COVID. Didn't sleep. Work up feeling crap and did a test. Just emailed to cancel. Feel terrible that it's last minute and really want the job. Have asked to reschedule. Did I do the right thing? AIBU? For info, it was a 4 hour interview (tests etc then face to face interview - just don't think I could have got through it - quite apart from not wanting to infect everyone).

Why are some people so deeply offended that others still test? I test if I feel coldy and I'm due to see my Dad. A cold he'll probably still choose to meet up, but last time he had COVID he had a bloody stroke.

I'd hugely appreciate someone not coming in if they've tested positive. COVID puts me out for weeks and I'd hate to get long COVID.

We’ve had two colleagues die as a result of covid and one in hospital in ICU with Covid now on twice weekly dialysis due to Covid related kidney failure. As individuals we are vaccinated, etc and living with it but as an organisation I’d say we would appreciate someone with Covid staying home and rescheduling an interview when they’re well

It is not an insignificant illness, people are still dying, and people's longterm health is still being damaged and eroded. The future effects on multiple systems is still no clear.

I test because it helps to know how to manage my asthma that flares up badly with even a basic cold, but also as I particularly like my older friends, some of whom are in their 80s and 90s, and would hate to cause them ill-health or death.

@Sexisthairdressers

how are you feeling this morning?

When will the covid deniers realise that covid is a very serious illness for some people?

I tested positive a couple of years ago when I woke up with what I thought was a streaming cold. I had a dentist appointment that day. When I rang to let them know they immediately made me another appointment as they did not want me bringing covid into the dental surgery.

I wasn't very ill. It was just a bad cold for me, but I am intelligent enough to realise that this isn't the case for everyone.

When I had an operation a few months ago, I had to do a Covid test every day for three days before the surgery, as well as using that horrible hibiscrub for my body and hair for three days.

Yeah I know!

Hibiscrub is due to infections, not covid.

I know patients do this but I thought I’d tell you what happens in terms of staff!!

It's not denying, chicken pox, 'flu, RSV etc are very serious illnesses to some people.

I would always avoid people when I am unwell, and do not support sharing any illness. It is the obsession with COVID that I find weird, people happy to share equally if not worse illnesses but if it is COVID they suddenly isolate.

(Even my phone is obsessed, it always autocorrects to capitals!)

Only an isolated handful of people share chicken pox - far fewer than would share COVID I’m sure.

You won't get the job. I'd think you were flaky OP.

@bigvig

so you would be happy that someone with a contagious illness pops by and share it with everyone, be it covid, flu or whatever?

I would be very happy they didn’t attend and shows some common sense

I got the job!

Congratulations! I am so pleased and just goes to show that doing the right thing and cancelling when you were ill really was the right thing to do. No responsible employer would penalise you for that and if they did I wouldn't want to work for an organisation like that anyway.

Enjoy your new job.

Congratulations!

Both for the job and pissing on the chips of the ‘it’s just a cold, I wouldn’t hire a snowflake’ crew!
