AIBU to cancel interview due to COVID?

Sexisthairdressers · 24/04/2025 07:21

I have a job interview this morning but have COVID. Didn't sleep. Work up feeling crap and did a test. Just emailed to cancel. Feel terrible that it's last minute and really want the job. Have asked to reschedule. Did I do the right thing? AIBU? For info, it was a 4 hour interview (tests etc then face to face interview - just don't think I could have got through it - quite apart from not wanting to infect everyone).

Colds don't kill people. Flu and covid do

When was the last time covid was cited on a death certificate? When was the last time someone was hospitalised for covid?

Do you think people are admitted to hospital for a temperature?

Yes when their having fits and hallucinating because they can't bring down there temperature having a temperature in the 40s can be incredibly dangerous

I don't have to be empathetic, I need to be informed and able to keep you alive.

I left that bit out. You don't sound very well-informed either.

But is the OP having those symptoms?

Because I am not bound up in hysterics?

A temperature is one identifier of potential sepsis. No one would be started on the sepsis pathway for having a temperature

My husband has had sepsis 3 times, the latest episode this January.
On the second occasion, some years ago, we were driving back from a family holiday, a long drive. By the time we approached our home town, he felt “odd” and wasn’t thinking quite straight. I took him straight to Preston Royal. His temp was 39.9 and he was admitted straight away.

Yes but he would have had other symptoms, his BP, his HR, his sats, his blood results, him feeling not well, all indicators, not a temperature alone.

I'm talking about me you was asking about my temperature. According to the nhs website anything above 39.4 needs immediate medical intervention. Considering you claim to be a nurse it's surprising you don't realise how dangerous really high temperatures can be

Lanzarotelady · 24/04/2025 10:33

I am stepping away from this, my essay won't write itself and my violin won't play itself.

No. They won’t.

Why on earth are people still testing? I mean fair enough not to go if you feel unwell but I’m surprised anyone is buying and bothering with tests now. It’s a severe as a cold for most people.

What about the Other people for whom it's a serious illness or worse or don't we count?

Difficult to tell with him, tbh. He has complex medical issues anyway and those stats are often all over the place anyway!

Searchingforthelight · 24/04/2025 10:38

I would thank you for not coming in and giving everyone COVID
And be happy to reschedule

And would think you are very responsible!

79 people died in the week to 4th April here.

People still get hospitalised with Covid. People still die with Covid. It hasn't gone away, it's just it's not newsworthy now.

Had no idea anyone tested still or even that tests are available! The only person I know who still had a batshit terror of Covid is 93 and nothing else to do with her time but chide relatives that they will kill her either their germs.

And I thought the self-centred ableists too thick & selfish to grasp how deadly Covid can still be for some people would be long gone or at least educated by decency if not by intelligence. Evidently not.

No, evidently not, unfortunately

Hoppinggreen · 24/04/2025 10:42

You probably did the right thing but as an interviewer if I had strong candidates who did interview on the day I probably wouldn't take the time to interview you later.
Its often a time things, days allocated for interviews and tricky to do them at another time, especially if it takes a whole day to do it.

Agreed. Not to mention that Covid and Flu can progress to pneumonia or other complications, depending on the individual, so the deaths would be recorded as the end state/complication, but could easily be as a result of having Covid in the first place. I just don’t know why anyone would want to go out into the world with ANY type of contagious illness and risk making others unwell too.

ARichtGoodDram · 24/04/2025 10:50

When was the last time someone was hospitalised for covid?

February for my Dd.

But what happens if flu comes in?
What if you give your mother flu?
Does your mum not go out at all?
Flu can and does still kill!

Ridiculous comment if you have the flu you also stay away from people 🤣🤣🤣

We can’t stop every risk but knowingly spreading is different
