I know it's meant to be 'humorous'. But come on, Mumsnet! Domestic abuse is not funny.

If that first one had “at scrabble” underneath in smaller letters it might be funny.

UniqueRedSquid · 22/04/2025 12:33

How many times do people need to be told that the website hosting the adverts does not host the advert and, in fact, your own browsing history is often the reason you get certain adverts.

Cosycover · 22/04/2025 12:36

This isn't an ad picked by mumsnet. And honestly get a life. Honest to God I'd love to worry about such trivial things that have zero effect on my life.

BeachRide · 22/04/2025 13:07

So because I've occasionally bought Fruit of the Loom tee shirts for my children, I have to see shitty, inappropriate, unfunny adverts on Mumsnet? Check.

This won’t be linked to fruit of the loom - it’ll likely be things like Temu, Alibaba, aliexpress, tik tok shop etc. your cookies aren’t also just do do with your direct browsing history but things people around you interact with. For example, I get ads for dog collars from aliexpress on my Facebook but I don’t have a dog. It’ll be based on posts I interact with (even pausing on a post for a second or two is classed as interacting), or someone in my network of friends. I don’t even use aliexpress, nor have I browsed there.

PPs are correct, ads are linked to your cookies and those alone, they aren’t necessarily vetted by Mumsnet so this isn’t where your grievance should be directed.

Mumsnet didn't pick and choose the ad or have control over it. Its based on YOUR browsing history.

I currently have ads in Danish for a local hardware store on the side of this page. Because I live in Denmark. Not because MN has decided to branch out to be sponsored by fucking Scandinavian building stores

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 22/04/2025 13:24

Top one, I was looking at the cost of a car parked on my street, assume something to do with that

Side one, I was googling butane gas the other day and did buy it from there

Another has just popped ups for dog harnesses...I was looking at dog leads last week. MN has no control over this (and why should they)

there was a photo attached but its under review Because some weirdos shouldn't be allowed access to a computer given what they post

Yeah this will be linked to your personal search history and internet browsing 🤭 not Mumsnet. Reject cookies when you land on websites and it’ll help. Clear your history including cookies, too.

Mylegishangingoff · 22/04/2025 13:29

I've been looking at running shoes so my ads are running shoes pretty much exclusively. It's not just mumsnet its anywhere that's linked to adsense. I have adsense on my website and have no idea what ads are being pumped out to people, Google takes care of all of that I just get the money.
